I'm in need of tent space as well, and I guess borrowing a pad would be nice too.

I have room in my 2-person tent, and I'll bring an extra pad if you want it. I might bring just the rainfly and poles and leav the tent body at home. I also have an extra pair of hiking poles if anyone wants to use them - let me know.

ah yes my children, this trip is forming up nicely. there is going to be snow up there this year, sweet. I was in leavenworth this weekend, fri night camping will be at Ida creek camp grounds, 14.2 miles from leavenworth on icecicle rd. at the camp site is on the left. the last mile of the road is gravel. I think crampons should be taken. Who needs to rent then?
Any ? call me at 206-412-0920
Let get any other needs adressed Wed. night

I am backing out of this trip because I am 1) a chicken and 2) a chicken. What does this mean to you people? There is room for someone in Denny's car! Ride with Denny, Lanston, & Drunkan!
Have fun! Take pictures! Gretchen, I anoint you as the "first aid administrator" (antiseptic wipe + band-aid application) in the event of some random, alcohol induced tussle between any of the guys.

im also a big maybe at this point. two people i was going with aren't too keen on doing a 2 nighter on the snow. playing it by ear at this point based on the conditions up there as we get closer.
i might do 2 nights in the san juans by bicycle instead :)

sorry to see that people are backing out, but as much as I enjoy y'alls company, it might be for the best. This is unabashadly a difficulty hike compounded by the weather conditions. Definatly not beginner's hike and i would hate to see anyone get hurt or have to turn back.
On that note, can I borrow a good pair of winter gloves from someone for this trip? my winter cycling gloves are all I have at the moment and they will most definatly not be sufficient.
Sadly, I may have to join the tide of lamers here. My workgroup is hitting its busiest time of year right now and taking Monday off is right out. I may even have to be available to come in this weekend.
Bleh. I was looking forward to this too.
Keep me posted of any other winter climbs you jackasses do, I'm still interested.

-CENTRAL COAST-WEST SLOPES NORTHERN CASCADES AND PASSES-
WEST SLOPES CENTRAL CASCADES AND PASSES-

...A STRONG PACIFIC STORM SYSTEM COULD BRING WINDY CONDITIONS TO
WESTERN WASHINGTON ON THURSDAY..
THE REMNANTS OF TROPICAL STORM LINGLING THAT ORIGINATED IN THE
WESTERN PACIFIC IS NOW CAUGHT UP IN STRONG WESTERLY FLOW DIRECTED AT THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST. AS THE SYSTEM TRACKS EASTWARD...MOST COMPUTER MODELS DEVELOP A STRONG SURFACE LOW AND TAKE IT SOMEWHERE INTO WESTERN WASHINGTON OR VANCOUVER ISLAND ON THURSDAY. DEPENDING ON THE EXACT TRACK...THIS SYSTEM HAS THE POTENTIAL TO PRODUCE STRONG WINDS OVER PARTS OF WESTERN WASHINGTON. IF THE SYSTEM TAKES A MORE NORTHERLY TRACK INTO VANCOUVER ISLAND...THE HIGHER WINDS WILL BE CONFINED TO THE COAST AND POSSIBLY THE FAR NORTH INTERIOR. HOWEVER...A TRACK NEAR OR ACROSS THE OLYMPIC PENINSULA COULD BRING HIGHER WINDS INTO THE PUGET SOUND AREA.
WHILE A HIGH DEGREE OF UNCERTAINTY EXISTS...WEATHER FORECASTS
SHOULD BE CLOSELY MONITORED OVER THE NEXT COUPLE DAYS.
tropical storm remnants and the cascades tend to be nasty little bitches. take this seriously, even though i hate you all i dont wanna see anyone hurt or worse.
maybe you remember my last weather warning..the one the night of the champions race...this is what i do.
p.s.
john, this means you too!

Trev, please keep a close watch on this and keep us informed. Bad weather is the one thing that keeps me off mountains. I've had my ways tempered after recovering a few too many dead climbers when I worked with S&R.

yeah, you guys probably want to stay down on colchuck if you don't have at least a VE-24 style tent. That weather looks bitchin fun... which means you need bulletproof equipment... especially as their is probably not enough snow to do a quick snow cave.
FAP. we probably won't get crane lift this weekend.

I just did the Enchantments loop on Sunday (minus the road section) and the conditions were absolutely fantastic. We did Asgard pass up to the base of Dragon Tail and then careened down through the lakes and back to Icicle creek. If Asgard gets any more snow, crampons will be absolutely necessary. The upper lakes had about 16-20 inches of snow cover. The slabs on the descent to Snow lake were ice-free. With winter weather on the way, be careful!
For those wussies (myself included) who don't feel like lunging into the entirety of this adventure, I will most likely camp at Ida Creek on Friday night and do just a day snowshoe/hike with the group on Saturday. And of course be back in time to throw on my prom dress! I've got 3 spots in my car for those who want to cut the weekend short.

so far, the forecasting models are trending pretty decent weekend. Thursday (as you all know) could be fun, but Friday night, all day Sat and Sun morning are decent.
