i usually handsew everything, but i do have a machine i picked up a while back that i need to learn how to use...and plenty of projects pending.
the real question is, who has the space to house we hooligans? and who is photo-doccing this fine affair? cos dammit, if point83 has a sew-in, we better have pics to prove there were mimosas and needles in the same room!

I'll volunteer my place. It's got tons of room and a nice big dining room table to work on. Plus I'm lazy and hosting means I don't have to ride anywhere.
I'm free this weekend.
I've got 2 more ghostcycles to prep and traffic signs (for the home and garden) to start making. Plus I need to start getting ready for the annual Halloween party. Oh yeah, and finish making my new LED headlight. I've got a lot of artsy-fartsy crafts crap lined up!

I've been thinking about sewing a water-proof bicycle cover, custom made to fit snuggly over my bike. See, the problem is that my marina has no under-cover bike storage and the interior of my little sailboat is plenty tight as it is.
Any ideas on what material to use? I'm gonna probably head to Seattle Fabrics to figure that out. They'll have plenty of useful fasteners too.
There's just no way I can let myself trash my poor bike in the rain all winter :(
Anybody else interested in owning one of these? With the right material, we could make these things fit into a really really small stuff sack -- it'd be great for camping & touring.

i'm definitely interested. i've been doing enough touring lately to make it common sense--and i'd finally be able to invest in a brooks w/o the guilt of knowing i'd ruin it in the rain!

We used a silnylon tarp for protecting the bikes on my last tour. It seemed to do a good job. Water does get through where it makes contact with items (like the saddle), but you could reinforce those areas with packcloth.
Silnylon is super light and packs down well.

the problem i've always found is that it's near impossible to keep the rain out and not get drenched with sweat. at some point your gonna be wet, either self created or via the elements.
i've deduced that being warm is best and easiest to achieve, regardless of the dampness. so all things fleecy and woolie are teh shit...wind proof is a bonus too, cause wind = brrrrr!
