Anybody have a photo of the new trolley tracks on northbound Westlake that they'd like to share with the interweb? One of our fellow cyclists hit the pavement pretty hard last night because of these, and I'd like to get the word out.
I'd just like to comment that I find it very odd how the tracks are on the outer lane, adjacent to the curb on Westlake but next to the center lane with stations in the middle of the road on Fairview.
So now I guess I gotta roll in the left lane... as far to the right as _is safe_, right?

We live in this hood, the debate about where to ride has been going on for awhile.
We always stay in the left lane along westlake, but then you have cars that squeeze past on the right.

No disrespect towards the crashee intended but why do people insist on using their face to break their fall? That's what hands/arms/feet/the fetal position are for.

Dunno, it's tough at first because you think you can survive it. You gotta crash a few times to learn the right way to land, and when to bail. I'm getting better at it, after a summer of bruises and road rash. Also, running into Derrick resulted in a dive over the handlebars, rather than tackling Derrick off the bike.

That's way too much work. I mean, it's probably safer in the long run, but that's still way too much work.
Maybe we should have a pointythree practice crashing session, separate from our crashing-for-real on regular rides.

Sounds like the Thursday ride needs to end up at a park...
Was it during last night's ride that the crash happened? If so who was it?
Last night seems like it was a bad night for riding; as I was driving home around 1930 I saw the lightning and about 30 seconds later it was total downpour. I imagine it'd have been miserable to get caught in without a raincape.

I've practiced in grass, and swear by it. There's nothing quite like making a stupid mistake on a fast descent, flying over the bars, and launching the bike. Then getting up a little scratched and finishing the race all amped up on adrenalin.
On the other hand, once I tripped over a dog and landed right on my face. My shoulder hurt bad for about a month.

So how do you start the crash process? Tie a rope from the seatpost to a tree and pedal? Lean wayyyyy over while going too slow? Purposeful accident does not process.

I suggest a more indirect approach, involving lots of alcohol followed by riding way too fast, but on grass instead of pavement. Might as well simulate the typical point83 crash scenario as realistically as possible.

I have been riding in the left lane, and I have been worrying (but not enough to re-route) that I may eventually have a problem with a confused car. Painting sharrows might be a good idea in the left lane along the tracks.

You're right, from now on I will sand cast my bike parts! Once I ran over the water taxi tracks, it was bad news... I had to sidestroke with my bike for like a hundred yards. Yeah, when I got stuck in the tracks I was at planing speed, but my road tires didn't allow me to keep it up on the tracks...

we could regress to a world of row boats and sails, but when we have decimated the food chain that Orcas rely on to eat, and pollute the water with storm water waste & sewage, it really doesn't matter if they have to wait at an underwater red-light to cross Puget Sound.
