More than a few people at the Cyclocross! thread (http://www.point83.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4427) mentioned they'd do crosstoberfest if it happened again in 2007.

Well ladies and gentlemen, start your mud-shedding pedals and beer drinking steins...

Crosstoberfest is a really low key cyclocross race put on at St. Edward Park. It has a faster, newbie friendly course and a (...and I quote) "bitchin' beer garden". The entry fees are superlow, there's no racing licence required and there's even a free kids race.

And FTW:

for any .83er who shows up, over the age of 21, I will buy your first beer if you complete the race in your respective category.

I realise that this conflicts with camping, but if you needed an excuse to do the yarn ride instead, this is it.

I will even provide a car ride for the first two people to ask, including rack space for your ride. PM me if you're interested or for details on how to claim your free beer. PM me if you're kinda on the fence but need some convincing. PM me if you're wondering how to say "shiite-like mud is caking up my rear derailleur" in the local dialects of Benelux!

Also, if you have a car and can carpool riders, PM me please.

Admins, can I get a sticky for this? Thanks!

The info I can find says this is at St. Edward, not at Evergreen Park (wherever that is).

Oops! That's another race in the SCC series! My mistake!

I've corrected it in the first post.

What about Sunni-like mud?

Sorry man, I'm going camping. This sounds awesome though. I'm sorry to say that the Yarn ride's been pushed to 3rd place for the competition for that weekend for me.

If Salmon La Sac gets bumped to the next weekend, I'll be there.

Already planning to be there. Not sure what to do about a costume yet...

No costumes required. This one is actually a "reputable" (if cyclocross could ever reach "reputable" status) race. There will be other costumed races that come later, all of which I recommend, including a .83 presented race the next week (see the cyclocrossdressed thread) and a Bellingham CX race right before Halloween (not sure any .83ers will be riding this one).

Now, if you broke out lederhosen, I guarantee that the announcer would do everything in his power to make you a crowd favorite, but that's another story altogether.

Anyone up for riding there and avoiding the parking hassles? Cars suck.

I think I'd need to be there by 9:30 or so to make it for the 10:30 race and have time to swap tires. Probably leave from Red Square or TiCycles around 8:00 or 8:15 (planning on taking it slow out there)?

This assumes that I do this instead of camping. I haven't made up my mind yet.

So for anyone kinda on the fence, but without a bike, my mountain bike arrived over the weekend.

If all you have is your road bike, I would loan it to you. Fair warning: it's full suspension, and even with the lockout damping the suspension, it's still heavy compared to a dedicated CX bike. Nonetheless, it's yours for the asking if you'd like to try 'cross.

The website says:

3-Person Team Cyclo-Cross Dressing Relay Race (Costumes Highly Rewarded & Encouraged)

Bring It!

Err, I mean... who wants to be on a costume relay team with me?

denny,

What do you have in mind. I'm totally down with the costume relay. Where is the carpool leaving from. I don't feel like riding out there if i'm going to ride my ass off while i'm there!

After action report:

Three .83ers showed up besides me to brave the wilds of a slick, narrow course and claim their beer rewards. Oh yeah, and the New Belgium beer tent was selling $2 bottles. Plus goodie bags for all racers with a water bottle, Gu, a cool mint tin flat kit and a lip balm thingy for Fat Tire Ale. You totally missed out! It was, in fact, "bitchin'".

Also, the course accidentally got routed into a hornets nest. And I got beat by Kat. I mean absolutely clobbered. And a perfectly good Bear Claw pastry got wasted at the "biergarten tripelle barrier". I got a blister from bringing more cowbell. Oh, and some dude was whining about us cheering him on about something or the other and beer in heavily accented English. These things were not "bitchin'".

You had better be there for Cyclocrossdressed. It's going to be even more awesome.

Evidently, I need find out what you look like so I can claim my beer prize next time. All I know is that Denny was behind me at the start line, and I didn't even see him go by. I think he came in around 12th.

Well, it sounded to me more like you got clobbered by the guy who ran you over when you had the non-rubber-side-downage on the single-track section. It's pretty hard to beat anyone in a bike race when you end up running 3/4 of a lap due to non-rotation of certain bike parts.

I forgot to check and see how many of the masters' men I ended up beating. I definitely passed a few...

I kinda lost my voice cheering on the cat3 women.

Streamers! Two beers and two donuts before noon! That was a good morning. My hangover headache even went away while I was on course...
