It's Thursday, and I've got this bike that needs riding...
I've been gallavanting off on the wrong coast getting some sea, some sun, and some exploring in, but now I'm home sweet home and ready to ride with you folks.
This Lefterly Coast is my home and oh, how I've missed it!
East Coast Notes:
In Cambridge/Boston the local bike geeks ride heavy chopper bikes and have mechanicals every three minutes, and NO ONE, not anyone (not even the fixie kids!) has a pump. Stupidness? Yes.
Also: they ride 6 to 8 miles per hour and it made me want to gouge out my eyes with a tire lever. and THEY DON'T DRINK BEER?!
Boston drivers don't honk at cyclists, even when you're splitting lanes like craziness.
New Hampshire has the purdiest coastline stars I've ever seen, and thanks to a telescoping local I've now seen the Adromedas!
Portland, Maine is like a mini-Seattle--but unfortunately no hostel. Nonetheless, the local folk were kind enough to direct us to the best clam chowder we've evAR had. fuck Ivar's.
So routes? I'd love me some riding near or to water, myself. Saint Edwards Park? other suggestions?

What the hell are the "Andromedas"? Do you mean the Andromeda Galaxy, M31? God I need to start using my telescope again... big fucker, about the size of a water heater. 12.5 inch Dob, for those of you who talk the talk.
Assuming the rain isn't too bad, I'm going to be coming out with you guys tonight, and bringing the gf for her first Point83 ride. I vote for somewhere... uh... cool. I'll let the veterans debate what might be a fun ride with at least two noobs and the chance or a bit of rain.

i would assume that be it. i don't talk the talk, i just crane my neck looking or lie back on the grass. first time i've gotten a good look with a telescope.

I'm out, unfortunately. I've got craploads of stuff to do and that funny clicking noise coming from my bike this morning turned out to be coming from my right knee.
So yeah, I think a few days of taking it a bit easy would be advised before my knees decide to self-destruct, again.
PS: a 12.5 in dob? Damn, man. I thought my 8 inch was a pain to haul around... What's that weigh? 120 pounds or so?
Actually, I'd love to have the time to make a string dob (linklinklink) in the 10-16 inch range that would fit into a backpack for hiking.
Some carbon fiber and 6000 grade Al and a 16 inch scope could probably come in under 30 lbs.

Did it look like a fuzzy cigar with a bright middle? And possibly two blobs nearby, about as bright?
Like this?
But yeah, on your back has a wonder no telescope can match. One of my most vivid memories is watching the Leonids in 1997 or 98 from midnight till 6am, just laying on my back and looking up.

It's about 100 lbs. 70 or so for the optical tube, and another 30 for the base. Heavy, yep, but not too bad. It is a bit of a pain to get up and down the stairs of my third floor apartment.
I very nearly bought a truss tube Dob when I bought it, but that would have been another $500 or so back in 1997, and I just didn't have enough money. The 12.5 was around $1500 or so, I think, basically a year worth of working and saving.

Tonight the pull from the Paramount is much stronger than the pull from WLC. Have fun, y'all.

The flaming lips should be a good show, but no tickets, so I'm up for a good ride tonight.
That, and I'll be returning to throwing people around on Tuesday and Thursdays soon. Don't worry though, I'll still come when it sounds like a good ride.
We ride in 7!

I'll be at the Decibel Festival, dancing my self silly at Neumos. HOlla if you want to come, tonight's showcase is going to be off the hook. Diplo, Simian Mobile Disco, Switch and Forcolrzack/Pretty Titty. $17 at the door, 21+. I'm helping as a volunteer stage manager the rest of the weekend, tonight is my chance to party.

I'll bring whiskey!
I've got to be at Teddy's at 11:00 to see an old friend, but i'll bring the mayhem until then.
How about Discovery Park? There's always lots of opportunity to get good and lost out there.

A second vote for whiskey. Or scotch, or bourbon, I love them all.

Carkeek... Discovery... either one. Whiskey plus fire on the beach sounds good.

Seconding fire. I'm in a shitty mood and I wanna drink and watch things burn.
I can bring some Jameson and some Power's on the whiskey front.

Shit, if it's the backtrails of Discovery again, I might just have to tell my knee to suck it and go tonight.
Koos, buck up ya big baby, I once rode home with 5 busted spokes from Carkeek. (On a Cascade ride of all things, too)

indeed. I've got a crazy schedule tonight, and going to the Henry is on it.
It's hard to fully explain to people how incredibly massive of an electronica bill Decibel has this year; if Bumbershoot was this cool, they'd have had ODB's reanimated zombie corpse onstage. Next year I fully envision seeing something outwardly ridiculous like Atari Teenage Riot/Alec Empire doing a one-off show at the Broadway Performance Arts Center.

Teddy's around eleven sounds okay to me.... Until then I vote Carkeek, as we did indeed do Discovery LAST WEEK.

If i had to pick between the two, I'd choose carkeek, because it's been 1.5 weeks or so. But alas, I don't get to choose, only protest heavily against discovery.

oh, you're always burning for us, aren't ya Trev?
Carkeek, fire and whiskey sounds like a good time. I don't think I've ever rolled up there before, despite the legends and heresay. I am even after however-many-months still so very much a n00b!

What's your suggestion? We could ride to that park with the pond and the bridge and stuff here. But then of course there's no fire, so whiskey would have to suffice.

Now that i've got a second for Teddy's at 11, even it's really an Adam wants to be home at 11, I think we should go south and drink at one of the little parks on the Duamish. Then maybe take a brief stop at the 9lb or Hooverville on our way back north.
Duwamish parks and Hooverville are nice ideas, as well. and closer to MY home on Beacon Hill, which will make me happier once 11 o'clock hits. I am still on EST myself and begin turning into a lazy pumpkin about that time.

I am going to sit this one out. I get out of work at 8:30. I want to watch the season ending of Burn Notice. Both my hands are fucked. I have a fireplace and bikes at home, in addition to beer, bourbon and a newly unstressed wife.
Do your part, don't do something anyone would want to make a PSA about.

It's been a long time since we've tried to get kicked out of Denny Blank Park. We've usually had smaller groups there in the past, around 20 people or so. Could be fun to see what happens with 40+. It's a smaller fire circle and we'd have to bring fire wood, but it's a nice spot with a sheltered, sandy beach.
p.s. hide your URLs using syntax like [url=http://www.whatever]description[/ur l] and the page won't get so wide.

it totally took me two minutes to fully realize you were talking about dwarves in a compy-game and not dwarves like the band.
