They don't mention it in the article, but this is about the Interurban:
http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/transportation/332874_getthere24.html

Among the many, many problems with the Interurban has been this bridge over I-5, which was completed a while ago, but you couldn't reach because they never built the approaches. Well, apparently the approaches will be built soon.

Then there will be only 1027 problems left to fix before the Interurban stops being a laughingstock.

Where the hell is this? I ride up to Mukilteo and back every weekend and I can't for the life of me picture any I-5 overpass. The map says it's at exit 186 which means the current route, I guess, is on the sidewalk? I'm so confused.

Anyway this reminds me of something I've been meaning to complain about: there is an inaccessible underpass, possibly at 525 in Lynnwood, where you have to literally cross a highway on your bicycle (no lights, no crosswalk) because the underpass is closed and blocked off by a bulldozer that hasn't moved in months; I think they've left it there to die. Anyway, it's the most dangerous part of the entire IU and I can't believe they haven't gone in and paved the 50 feet of trail that's already there to complete the path.

I've also been meaning to go out and take step-by-step pictures of the IU route from Seattle to Everett, in an attempt to foil King and Snohomish Counties' cunning plan to camouflage and/or obfuscate all route signage. Maybe I'll do that this Friday.

That would be a nice contribution, but instead I just said fuck it and took streets instead. They don't have to camouflage signage on the trail, because it just isn't there.

if this is the overpass I am thinking of, you can see it just north of 128th when you are driving. It's been finished yet unaccessible for over a decade, but would make a great connector in the route.

Would the new route look something like this?

http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=1347433

That would be kinda cool. I remember that the old route required crossing something like 4 freeway onramp/offramps. The whole rest of that trail does suck. I've rode on it a few times and can say that I could count the number of other bicyclers on that trail with my ten fingers or less.
