In response to your inquiry, I am happy to say that we will not be
keeping the Burke-Gilman Trail under the Fremont Bridge closed for another
year.

The Burke-Gilman Trail will remain closed until some time in September
for construction on the Fremont Bridge with a detour on N 34th Street.
Seattle Department of Transportation’s (SDOT’s) contractor for
our bridge project is grading for paving in the next two weeks. As soon
as the trail is ready for public use, we will open the trail to
bicyclists and pedestrians.

SDOT previously announced that the Burke-Gilman Trail would remain
closed in the vicinity of the Fremont Bridge through the summer of 2008 due
to nearby construction of the Lakeview Building, a private
development. When this issue came to my attention, I reviewed the needs of the
private project and the property easements under the Fremont Bridge and
determined that the Burke-Gilman Trail can safely remain open during
construction of the nearby private development.

Sincerely,

Grace Crunican, Director
Seattle Department of Transportation

Bullshit.

Nice, but schedule is bullshit.

Today is the last weekday of September. The contractor just laid down some very nice pavement today...it is still hot.

The SDOT project manager sent an email to the neighboring businesses estimating that a detour for the trail would be open a week or two after paving. This detour would make three sharp turns under the bridge approach...but at least it avoids 34th.

While admiring the paving job just now, I talked to a guy in a hard hat who said that yeah the pavement goes all the way to the trail but the trail wouldn't be open for about a month.

The higher up you go, the less you know.
