That's right motherbitches, it's Tuesday, and I have in my panniers today not one but two super-special bottles of rum, and am prepared to cater this ride, Hawaiian stylee - mai tais on me, while supplies last.
(Rogelio, I'm counting on you to come through with the lime juice... otherwise it's cheap storebought limeade, which none of us want.)
So, where can we go where it's relatively not-wet and enjoy handcrafted drinks without having to pay for them? Somewhere fire-enabled would be most excellent as well.
Suggestions?
See you in...
and some change...

I promised fresh squeezieness and I shall deliver if I have to roam from grocery store to store.
As far as Mexico and Peru are concerned, the above are limones, not limas...

there's a picnic shelter at lincoln park with a fireplace and a roof, though it is exposed to the rain.
any other parks?

I just picked up sixty key limes which should hopefully be enough for juice purposes.

Leave about 3 or 4 of them for garnish purposes...
I also need to get cups, ice, and maraschino cherries.

I think ice would be one of those items best acquired during a mid-ride grocery store raid.
But we need to not forget, like when we forgot the sugar for the absinthe.

Yes. This is the thread for non-pussies, non-sickies, and other assorted hardcore bicyclists and/or alcoholics.
Also, Alabama's thread wasn't there when I wrote this one, and then it was there after I hit "post." Oh well.

Judging from the size of the thread so far, it may be a quiet night.

*tear*
This, by the way comes even as I'm not only missing a DoubleheaderRide (tm) for working late at the office, but I'm about to get wrapped up into an office halloween party that I really don't want to go to, especially since it's at the same time as cyclocrossdressed. I mean, how do I explain I want to miss the party with office wives and coworkers I really don't like for cyclocross in a little black dress?
You guys really cut me to the quick with your peer pressure and taunts of "pussy" and "sickie".

Rant about overkill software solution to a non-problem follows:
Hey, since Someone is working on new forum software... can we get an RSVP feature for reducing the number of "I'm going ride tonight"/"I'm a (sick) wuss that would rather do (home)work" replies on the main forums? That way we can get back to what's important here, discussions (Ha!), and I don't have to wade through post after post of people whining. We all know who's not a wuss when we meet up on the rides...
However, it could still be useful. If it not only kept lists of who was going or not, but also took down an optional, simple, and editable message as well, it would reduce the number of headaches for people like Trev or Sketchy, that are managing (car) rides/gear and updating a single reply in a thread. It could be added to each new post similarly to a poll, creating a simple check box deal (yes/no) at the top of the page, a one line input field, and then links to a separate page for the lists of yes or no, which display username, avatar, and message. Private messages could be used to work out ride shares with those who offer in their message, and everyone could alter their RSVP to reflect updates...
Easy right? I know you all have nothing better to do, so get on it.

Also, since nobody really cares about fixing something that ain't broke, nobody should have to read what I say about the forums. Please vegetablize(Remington);

those RSVPs are only there for your entertainment. Few actually follow through with what they say. So just read them and be entertained, damnit.

Have you updated your resume, found a job, or a place to live? i.e., All the things you were supposed to be doing a couple weeks ago instead of browsing on the forum? :)

Wow, we didn't ride that far, why the fuck am I so tired? Mmmmmm, beer and bread, great of building pyramids or after cold rides.
Yeah, I definitely need to keep brining unfiltered cigarettes on the rides.

I'm working on it. ;) My homework is getting done too (imagine that), but it's only the 2nd week of the quarter. Towards the end when I'm swamped, I'll probably skip a few rides, but don't expect me to announce it every time.

Seconded. It was pretty excellent to be greeted with a cup of 99% rum once I finally found you guys.

I'm glad you all got home safe and had a good time.
I got clipped by a car on the way back to the Burke from where I left you all at CIP. I was passing a car and they turned left in front of me. They only clipped my mad flap, but 2 inches closer and it would have been different. Both my bike and myself are fine apart from the emptiness of not riding last night.

I clipped a bush! Was going up the sidewalk along 24th Ave NW in Ballard briefly, there was a couple of peds in front of me, I called out "on your left" but the guy didn't move, and I thought I had enough room to get through... Clipped my bar, almost dove into the bushes, then over corrected and swung way out onto the sidewalk in front of the peds, almost went off the sidewalk and then almost ran into a tree. The lady said "whoa!" and I said "that was fun and unexpected!" as I rode away.
Not as scary as getting clipped by a car, but I'm sure things are different from the bush's perspective.

Better than being clipped by a Bush, since something tells me they aren't too cyclist-friendly.

Both equally good ways of staying warm. Much props to the weather for holding out; it really was almost like being on a beach on Maui.
Almost.

On my way home I did a nice slide on my hip and land in the intersection move at 10th as I was turning left on to Roanoke; it was less clipping something and more me not quite judging my speed and road slickness. It was awesome because I was having problems extracting my cleats from the pedals and there was a car coming so I lay there waving, hoping they could see me. Yay lights on your bike. =)

Well the elder is on record of being in favor of them:
Quote:
The more I think about our U.S. domestic transportation problems from
this vantage point of halfway around the world, the more I see an
increased role for the bicycle in American life. Obviously, some
terrains make in more difficult, obviously some climates make it more
difficult, but I am convinced after riding bikes an enormous amount
here in China, that it is a sensible, economical, clean form of
transportation and makes enormous good sense."
- Ambassador to China (70-76) - George Bush - 41st US President]
Not that I know of him doing anything in the US to encourage cycling.
The younger shrub obviously is a tad hypocritical on the issue as he likes to ride one himself quite a bit, but also doesn't do a damn thing to encourage it in the general population.
Jeb (being a Floridian) probably runs over three before breakfast and polishes a few off after dinner.

I've read several times that Bush 43 is also an avid cyclist, although I have no idea how big he is on the idea of cycling as a common means of transport. A lot of conservatives are actually far more amenable to alternative forms of transportation then one would expect, they're just even more beholden to the oil industry and their big yummy lobby dollars.

I very nearly did that in Ballard on Market Street just west of 22nd a couple of weeks ago. Trying to change lanes and I just kind of felt my bicycle go "whoosh" under me. I have no idea how I stayed up or even what I hit; there's no metal there and the pavement looked clean; perhaps some vehicular gastronomic juices seeped onto the boulevard. And this was in heavy traffic... going down would have been bad.
And yeah, yay lights on your bike. All four of the clipless falls I had when I was first learning resulted in much struggling to free my right foot. Trying to do that while having a car coming at you at night speaks to the importance of being visible.

Most of those are regular functioning disabilities, and I was following directions just fine.

Whoa there, cowboy. Don't drag "conservative" into the discussion when you really mean "neoconservative".
Conservatives like conserving things. Things like our armed service, the environment, our resources, our educational and technology edge and most importantly our Constitution. I consider myself a conservative.
Neoconservatives like to conserve things too. Things like antiquated views on religion -especially christianity, antiquated views on diplomacy- especially "the Big Stick" and colonialism, and antiquated views on conservation- like conservation means having enough wildgame to shoot each year. The current GOP is full of neoconservatives, which is ironic since the "o" in GOP and the "neo" in neoconservative just don't make sense together. I don't consider myself a neoconservative.
