Has anyone else noticed that the lane paint for the Eastlake bike lane really close to the Eastlake/Fuhrman/dump truck accident is essentially gone for that entire block? It's crying out for a renegade stencil fest on a Sunday evening ... just saying. All in a night's work to help out SDOT.

Avoiding a crash comes down to one simple action:

Buying a trials bike with enough big hit compliance in the suspension that you can pump onto the fscker's hood then pogo off his windshield.

Seriously though, it took me a second to realise that this poster was a warning to cyclists. When I first saw it, I was thinking "yeah, a biker plowing over that idiot'll teach him for making a left into oncoming traffic!"

I suppose it's all perspective nowadays.

Laura, count me in for civic duty this Sunday if it goes down. Saturday night'd be better though, since ferries run later.

on further inspection, it looks like that red car was making a left turn onto a one way street going the other way!

honestly though, it seems like good advice. look!

Well, the lane markings change between blocks, so it's possible it's one-way going forward, but two-way where the bike lane is.

But given this is NYC, not bloody likely.

I think the point is that it's a warning to cyclists AND drivers. Although copyranter pointed out a while back that the driver is turning the wrong way down Lafayette Street (check out the direction of traffic and parked cars in the background).

Further research reveals that this is Astor Wines and Spirits, and apparently the car is going the wrong way on E 4th St, then turning the wrong way onto Lafayette (I can't explain the One Way sign on the pole; Google Maps and the picture on Astor's website confirm that 4th is one-way eastbound, not westbound).
