i took the time to improve on the standard attachment design, so i thought i would share it with you diy losers.

i added a U bolt on the bottom and used a longer 16" bungee with a bent closed S hook. then i used goop to seal the bottom U bolt holes.

brilliant. i might have to retrofit my buckets with that retention mechanism.

one more thing i've found necessary is a short bungee that you can pull over the lid to hold it down. not a big deal when you've been sitting on it - i need to add lid handles to help with that - but necessary to keep the lid from popping off on big bumps.

Any recommendations in a ready made clip system, I have seen that Jannd makes one and ortlieb.

Anything else out there worth trying?

why spend the extra money? My setup at the top of the page costs about a buck and works better than any of the marketed systems.

that being said, after having toured extensively with them, bucket panniers are not the answer. they're too bulky for my likes.
perhaps they're just the thing squid fishing, though.

what I'm making is a battery tote for my lighting setup to take to the pier for squid fishing. Much smaller than the buckets, in fact the dimensions of the box I will be hanging is only 7.5" long and 3" wide.

while I like this setup I also like the ortlieb where the clip itself fully closes and has that nylon webbing "handle".

I am still wondering if there are better options than the ortlieb.

I also am going for a cleaner look, although this is tidy what you've done here even though that hardware isn't stainless.

The ortlieb hardware is about the best price point for function and cost.

Arkel hardware is supposed to be pretty nice too but it costs a lot.

I think some flat stock hooks and bungie tension would probbaly be fine for the magnolia-fishing pier trip.

I've heard the Arkel hardware is cool in theory but not so hot in long term day-to-day longevity

50 bucks for hardware is way too much for this project. Alright, thx for the info group.
