You guys missed out. There were four of us to begin the ride. We picked up a couple people here and there. Did three or four loops around town, taking lanes.
blah blah blah girls, lies..
see, I read the article in the chronicle, and this works with a few people. 400, however, and you end up with 400 people spread out all over the place, getting confused, getting lost, and getting into trouble. Corking and running lights is pretty much necessary to keep a mile-long train of people on bikes together and relatively safe, and that does not even work when the a-holes in front forget to mass up and it turns into critical criterion.
I might come out next time. It's better to be riding bikes than it is to be sitting on one's ass getting too drunk to ride.

That's the spirit. Hopefully we'll see more people next month. More beer, girls, pizza, girls....
In any case, this month's CM is going to be a blast!

Word. September was my first CM ride and it was fuckingly awesome but I agree that those up front were going way too fast. I thought about going up with some folks to help regulate but I was having too much fun corking. Maybe for the October ride we can help slow things down a bit. I felt really bad for the folks at the back getting tailgated by cars and generally being left behind.

I will save you time & effort ... don't worry about it. From my experience, CM looses it's fun real fast if you anoint yourself as a "babysitter of those in the back." The group can't wait for the slowest of the slow, doesn't really move that fast to begin with, and will mass up at key points (like taking the Ballard Bridge).
If you still choose to undertake this mission, good luck!

Fair enough. I don't have any history with CM so I can't compare September's ride to previous ones; but it did seem like a lot of people were saying it moved unusually fast. I think it's more impressive the more cohesive we are, but I guess 400 people on bikes is 400 people on bikes, regardless.

Next month Second Friday (or whatever it's called) will ride again. Screw the Manners, we just like to ride bikes. The Girls Gone Wild like it too.
I'm all for Girls Gone Wild, but I don't want it to be seen as a protest on "College Campus Sluts". :)
I never thought cycling would involve so much beer and nudity, I'm having a whale of a time in Seattle, can't wait for this epic Thursday ride!!!

Me too, I'll try any ride once. Eric, tell your mom to stop calling.
