I have a Cyclops Fluid2 and I like it very much. It's very quiet, and like any other fluid resistance unit, the resistance is exponentially related to wheel torque. That means big gears give more resistance and high cadences require higher wattage, just like the road.
I had a magnetic/wind resistance trainer by blackburn and it was noisy and rattled itself loose often. Don't know if it was a maker problem or a resistance mode problem.
Tire wear is a small problem, but there are special trainer tires. I have one on my summer racing bike and it helps both with noise and heat related wear.
