humor me, but what in jesus christ's jewish name is a rss feed?

if it's anything like a podcast, it can go fuck itself right in it's useless, puckered, myspace generation ass.

i'm done now.

face it, there's a lot of work to be done on the interface.

first, the tag cloud has GOT to go. it's absurd and I highly doubt anyone will use it (we're not dealing with a huge corpus that needs sifting -- plus, I don't trust about 1/2 of .83 to tag adequately.)

there's no way "back."

interface elements aren't distinct nor consistent (link color, emphasis, etc are all the same color, -- for instance, the location navigator `[westlake center >> <post title>]` needs to be clickable, all the same style)

dividing line between poster and post left-to-right, like a border-left:1px solid black; on the main post category. I assume derrick is going to step in and make this pretty and possibly usable.

i like the tag cloud, but maybe that's just me? at some point in the sixty thousand posts we have here there are things where tags might be useful, and of course for the comedy lols? it is waaaay too big though.

i'd love help picking out the interface elements that need fixing. the location navigator for the forum -> thread is clickable on the forum like a breadcrumb. is that non-obvious enough to need attention?

i'll throw in the poster/post line, that's a good one.

ben: an rss feed is an easy way to get data out of a site (like forum posts) and aggregate them together in one reader. i use an rss reader that pulls the recent posts from everyone's blogs and other postings so i don't have to check every single site i read every day to see if something is new. the rss aggregator takes care of that for me.

instead i just sit and refresh the rss aggregator habitually.

okay, so like, the ability to tag posts- that's good. that makes things (hopefully) easier to search, to some degree of easier.

but like, really. tag clouds are fully played and should go the way of hypercolor.

People who work from home, on computers, electronically transmitting designs to be fabricated in factories thousands of miles away are officially not permitted to be luddites. That is all.

What is RSS?

RSS (Rich Site Summary) is a format for delivering regularly changing web content. Many news-related sites, weblogs and other online publishers syndicate their content as an RSS Feed to whoever wants it.

Why RSS? Benefits and Reasons for using RSS

RSS solves a problem for people who regularly use the web. It allows you to easily stay informed by retrieving the latest content from the sites you are interested in. You save time by not needing to visit each site individually.

So for hippies:Y
You install a RSS reader into your browser and instead of having to go to the site, you click the RSS link and see whats new and can be be magically transported to that specific subject.

clear?

I dig the RSS but the damn tag cloud is all over my screen. I'd post a shot but I didn't bring the Powerbook to work.

on the main page, the "forums" panel should be above the latest discussions panel...

ORLY!?

My point is, there's something beautiful and mechanical and totally unnecessary about having a button that copies the screen to the clipboard.

*thinks "i need a screenshot"*

*idiot keyboard slap slap*

*ctrl-v*

booyah!

bbpress should be keeping you logged for a week after each visit thanks to the magic of delicious cookies. i could probably go hack that to make it longer if it really bugs you... when was the last time you went a week without visiting the forums?

Can we get rid of that line at the bottom of every page, because honestly, I'd rather have the current system.
