For the record, I am an idiot.

I showed up at westlake 30 minutes early, knowing that you don't ride until 7 or sometime shortly after that, but when I looked at the clock it didn't register with me and I thought I was 7 minutes late...didn't see anyone else, hung around for another 10 minutes and left. On the bright side, I made pretty good time heading home with the wind.

I need to learn how to read a clock. I'll ride with you next thursday.

I 'got dropped' at 12th and Pine. I broke my chain. Then I went to Elysian and saw Gregg [somafixed] and had a beer or two. After I fixed my chain and then broke it again, I noticed that my drivetrain was totally buggered. Apparently, my outside cage plate of the my fder was striking the teeth on my biggest chainring, and now the derailiuer seems kinda fucked.

I'm rocking the 9 speed now. 40/11-34. Until monday, that is.

Hope things are great. The sky just opened up, and I'm drinking the bottle of wine I intended to drink on the ride tonight.

I managed to make it all the way to carkeek. It seemed like tonight was the night of mechanicals (and route confusion), the first I've observed in a while.

We all got drunk around a bonfire, watched the trains go by, and got soaked by the not rain, but the drizzle. I discovered the difference between 42/16 riden by a 200 pounder and a and 40/17 ridden by a 140 pounder on the climb out of carkeek, but the downhill stretches made up for it.

It was nice to meet many of you who I have observed on the forums, and it was nice to socialize with many of you who i have seen around.

P.S. Rainlegs: Mostly dry, but wet under the kneecaps. Go figure.

apologies to anyone who got dropped or left early. for those of you that had a mechanical: please, make sure your bike more or less works before you come to the ride. and, if you don't have a solid and brilliant idea of where we should be going, don't try to get to the front of the group. that causes the problems.

joby failed in his quest to get me too drunk on vodka to keep standing, but jeremiah succeeded in selling me a shot of jaeger. there was plenty of rain when we eventually left. i'm wet and cold and want a pugsley.

dear henry and ben: you complain about the bike club being a bunch of pussies, huh? didn't see your shit at carkeek with the bonfire and the marshmallows.

epic. that was an awesome ride. from the frequent mechanicals, the evident wrong turn through the gravel trails out behind the IMA, trying to catch up while riding north, to fucking Carkeek in the dark, to riding home in the pounding drizzle, there was nothing that was not epic about that ride.

thanks to Joby for the hillclimbing, the suffering, and the amazingly tastalicious vodka-based libations. also, thanks to J for providing me with an occasion to assert my dominance in a completely animal way.

Last night started rough as hell, but by the end it was made known that the whole thing was just an epic struggle. There were so many mindless mechanicals. Literally two blocks after we started off again, having just fixed a flat, my chain just threw itself from my chain ring. I didn't even bother stopping, but thanks to those who waited even though I just blew past most of their kind souls with little more than a "let's catch up!"
I had a lot of fun. Plus, I never thought I'd ever get the chance to hit someone in the head with flaming marshmallows but thanks to point83, I totally got to fulfill that lifelong dream!

toss it in a clothes dryer on a light-heat setting (so as to not melt the jacket) and include a dryer sheet.

I like washing it with 1/2 cup of baking soda, although just washing it is usually enough.
