Hey, that was direct experimentation into the thermal properties of aluminum. It's well known that aluminum has a lower specific heat than steel; therefore, it should cool faster than steel, and also, one end can be much, much hotter than the other.

in my defense, the baton was already in the fire when I started playing with it, I was not the instigator of the aluminum-burning.
