So I've long intended proposing a paintball game but I would like to see how interested people are.
Have you ever played paintball before?
Do you own or have access to any paintball equipment?
Do you have access to any large wooded private property in the greater Seattle area?
Are you interested in playing? It would be about ~30$ to rent all the equipment you need. Paid in full ahead of time if we want a private game.
There are a few commercial fields in the area but owning land exclusively for paintball is a tough way to make any money so they tend to be small or just open fields with big inflatable objects for you to hide behind. The other part about commercial fields is that there can be more than a few assholes who just like to light up n00bs, alas they ruin it for new people some times. There can be cool old guys though too. Private group games are more fun I think, either at a commercial field or on private property. I haven't played for 6 or 7 years. Playing with friends in the woods was always the most fun though.
If you have any questions post them up hear and I'll do my best to answer them.

Totally. I used to help a friend run a wooded paintball field on his property in Monroe, because he thought it would be an easy way to make some money, but really he was conned into it by one of his nephews that wanted to play for cheap.
I'd be willing to rent if we had a place to go and we could get a decent group involved.

I'd be willing to rent into a private game.
I'm really not interested in playing with or against a bunch of militaristic Rambo-types and I WILL be that noob getting lit up. Point83 Paintball would be fun.

I think I may have you beat there ... I once played lazer tag (kinda similar at least in principle, right?) on a first date back in the day and 90% of my hits were against people on my own team ... there was no second date. sniff, sniff.
Anyway, count me in. I would have to rent everything.
If we ever wanted to take paintball on the road to the Tonasket area of eastern Washington, let me know.

The Militia-zealot paintball type is a common misconception, I've never run in to those folks much. In the 90's paintball tournaments started taking off as a way to display the sport, spongers, marketing, bad attitudes follow. These little duels are very fast (less than 5 minutes), on small inflatable courses and are about putting out A LOT of paintballs, the joke being "One case (2000 balls), one kill". So then you have the folks that buy these expensive, electronic, finicky guns that shoot 20 balls per second and think they are pros. Same thing as wanna-be squids buying 10,000$ bikes and thinking they are Lance.
My gross generalization of equipment is as follows with a bicycle analogy
Electro-Pneumatic Semi auto guns, tournament guns (Carbon Fiber/Titanium/Dura-Ace/Record)
Mechanical Semi Auto, more robust, average joe guns (Surly LHT with fenders and rack)
Pump guns, robust accurate, a bit slower rate of fire (Single Speed, S/A 3-speed, Craigslist 100$ special?)
Stock class, Small pistol, limited paint ~10 balls per load , 12-gram CO2 (fixies?)
Playing pump or stock class can be more fun since you sneak around and have to be more precise. One option would be to see about getting a bunch of these guns and some inexpensive masks. So for 30$ you could own your own stuff, everyone would have the same equipment as well. Paint we could buy in bulk and divy up. We could be self supported this way. I know where some fields are on public land out by Sultan, ~50 minute drive from Seattle.

Yeah those places are an option but I have not played that style. The games would be shorter probably. I'd still prefer playing in the woods though.

I have been to the place in Everett too. For my tastes, it was too small.
There is a better place to the south of Seattle, I don't remember if it was around Federal Way or if it was south of Tacoma, but they had a few football field size forested areas with combinations of man made wood structures to hide behind and climb on and trees, foxholes, and shrubbery. I was there about 4 years ago and it was a blast.

KC crusader. Played there ONCE. I still have a token somewhere. It was really fun, and pretty tactical, and I would have loved it if I could have seen what I was doing, instead of having my glasses fog up.
I used to play paintball every weekend at the academy. Considering that half of the group was either prior or selected Seals and Marines, you can imagine how much fun woodsball could be.
Unfortunately, I got pinged in the chest at very close range over a rib I had cracked as a kid in a skiing accident, and got a permanent scar. I'm not allowed to play anymore now.
I'd go just to watch Laura shoot everyone in the back though!

I've ben paintballing a few times. KC Crusaders was pretty good. The outdoor places are generally more fun in my experience than indoors but both are a blast.
If we go to a commercial field, it's good to check to see if they allow outside paintballs. A lot of those places make a significant amount of their money by making you buy paintballs at inflated prices.
One variant that I did the summer before last was using slingshots instead of paintball guns. In many ways, I found it more fun since it stressed skill over just blasting away with paint and forces the engagement distances much closer. I had a particularly fun kill when I got a friend by bum-rushing him and 'stabbing' him with a handful of paintballs.

we could do this in something much less distant, like Ravenna Park. Could be fun, especially if we start in the late afternoon.

I've got a decent sling shot. And I live by Ravenna park.
You might want to find out what Seattle city code has to say about paintball inside city parks. My guess is that it's not legal. In NYC use of a paintball gun inside city parks is nearly equivalent to discharging a firearm in public. Conviction is a felony charge.

They are biodegradable vegitable oil if memory serves. Not quite water soluable, but non-toxic.
