Hey,

For all you cyclocrossers (and maybe those of you interested and just want to watch .83ers go roll in the mud, then watch some pros roll in the mud even faster), Washington State Finals is on 18 November at the Kitsap County Fairgrounds. This is about 5 km from my new flat in Silverdale, and is one of the last races in the Seattle Cyclocross series (although it's not in the 9 scored points races).

The flat is only one bedroom, but there's a couch and loveseat (both wallaway recliners) and plenty of carpeted floor space for sleeping pads and inflatable beds. So I'm thinking Saturday night we can cook up a carb-loading dinner and chill (wrench party if need be?). On Sunday it's a 15-30 minute ride to the race. After our category races and watching the pros race for the state champion's jersey we can stop at the supermarket at the bottom of the hill for grilling goods (and tea and spirits for you guys) and party in earnest Saturday night. After brunch on Sunday, you guys can comfortably catch either the Bainbridge or Bremerton ferry.

This is the last weekend before I head out for three to four months, so let's make this good.

Interested? Race information is at http://www.ridgeracing.org/ and http://www.seattlecyclocross.com. Directions and ferry advice can be had by PM'ing me. See you there!

I'm bumping this because a lot of people are telling me in person that they'd love to come ride or just watch, but need more details.

The race is at Kitsap County Fairgrounds, on Nels Nelson Road, Silverdale (or East Bremerton, depending on who you ask). Race map here, and race info here.

DIRECTIONS:
To get to my flat by car, take the Bainbridge Island Ferry. Drive straight off the ferry onto WA-305. Stay on this road as it goes off the island, and eventually gets to Poulsbo. Drive through Poulsbo and take the exit to WA-3 southbound (the second exit to the right for WA-3). Take the East Bremerton/Silverdale exit from WA-3 to WA-303 southbound. First exit off WA-303 is the Silverdale exit. At the bottom of the ramp, you will be on Ridgetop Lane. Turn left, drive about a mile until you see Ridgetop Apartments and Shipside Lane to the left. Enter the lot, turn left and take one of the parking spots off to the left. I am in building B, #102. Total driving time from the ferry is about 45 min, given stop and go traffic on WA-305.

To get to my flat by bike, take the Bainbridge Island Ferry, and again, take WA-305 until you get to Poulsbo. Go through town, up the hill and turn left at WA-307 southbound. Continue until you reach Viking Way, then take a left to go southbound. At this point, you will be riding for quite some time, when Viking Way becomes Silverdale Way at the intersection with WA-308. Continue on Silverdale Way to the top of the hill, and make a left onto Ridgetop Lane. Riding about two miles will bring you to Ridgetop Apartments and Shipside Lane on your right. Follow directions above to find my apartment. Total ride is about 21 miles.

I will also make a run down to Bainbridge by car to pick people up Saturday night for those of you without a car. Msg me if you're interested. I have room for three bikes on the rack, and a total of four passengers besides me.

SATURDAY:
I usually make up dinner the night before a race. I'm thinking several kinds of pasta and some fresh greens. If you want alcohol, sure... but beware of spirits coming back to haunt you about 15 minutes into the race. If you need it, I have a full Park Tool set and a nice repair stand and truing stand, so wrench partying is fully supported. Also, I have a hot spa (and pool if you're crazy or Nordic), so bring a swimsuit if you're interested.

SUNDAY:
Early morning for the 1000 start for Masters Men and Cat 4 Women. The pros race at 1500. We may or may not stay the whole day, depends on what you want. After, we can stop at the grocery store at the bottom of the hill, and party it up Sunday evening. Also, if you need it, I have a washing machine and dryer for the clinically mud-impaired. After, I can ferry people to the ferry terminal if need be.

Is it possible to ride bikes with your bike club **too much**?

Let's find out. I'll be there.

I'd love to do this, but I'll be in New Mexico unfortunately. Have a good time and get muddied up for me.

Current plan is for me to head over Sunday morning. But if my wife isn't going to tag along then my plans may change. Know anything about the course at the fair grounds?

It's muddy. Like "did you know that the Belgians have seventeen words for mud" muddy. It kinda depends on how they lay it out, but I suspect it'll be:

A) fast, for a muddy course
B) not very technical, for a muddy course
C) not many run ups

Of course, I could be wrong. The organisers might have a surprise or two. The people laying out the course (Ridge Racing) aren't the same people who setup the Seattle Cyclocross events, even though SCX is apparently lending technical support.
