The .84 ride was fun. My head kind of hurts though.
It was pretty awesome. We rode the SLUT (dane went boom, heh), went to REI, rode teh Ghettodrome, meandered up into Queen Anne, hung out up at the eastern overlook park, cruised up into Fremont to find the new park (still fenced off, but intruiging) and then roly poly'd into Ballard in time to go to the Calendar Release party. Not a lot of miles and only moderate amounts complaining & getting lost (trying to find the 99 flyover, find the new park, riding right past the bar, etc).
Good times.

No, fuck that. I will go anywhere and do anything that THE GROUP wants to do. The attitude of "I don't give a shit what anyone else wants, I'm doing this and if you don't want to fuck off" is the fucking STUPIDEST thing I've ever heard in my whole fucking life. I don't care how long you've been riding point83, if you fucking think that is an acceptable way to lead this group you obviously have no idea what this group is about.

It was a fun ride, though I remember a whole lot of bitching, especially as we wandered up Queen Anne, in one case up a very steep cobblestoned, potholed street.
Both rides this week went past the new park on Palatine, so no excuses for not knowing where it is.

Ride? There was a ride?
I had grilled cheese with horseradish and pickles, and then I got my wallet which I had left at work. And then I went and had a blast at the Conor Byrne. Calendar party FTW! Shitty Thursday rides FTL.

how can you call the ride shitty if you weren't there.
you're like a child that wanders into the middle of a movie.

langston: magic parking lot = going down a loop into a parking lot with big-ass speed bumps just to go back up the parking lot with big ass speed bumps and up to that park
in retrospect the magic parking lot was kind of awesome

'Twas the shakedown cruise for my new (to me) 10-speed.
The seat is too low.
The derailleur stop screws needed adjusting (thanks, Ray).
I can climb Queen Anne with 10 gears using a rational route, but I'm way out of practice.
I need a better temporary bag solution (see thread elswhere).
I still don't trust the brakes, which is how I got dropped going down Queen Anne. But no worries, as I made it down just in time to avoid the overnight Fremont Bridge closure, and I was planning to head home, anyway. Plus on the way home I got a distress text message, so I would have had to bail regardless.

turns out THE GROUP generally doesn't have a clue what they want to do, other than mostly avoid hills and go to the same places they know and can agree on. hell, THE GROUP would rather stay home and watch tv and eat cheetoes than ride a bike.

Haha Aaron and I are not foes, but we also didn't see eachother last night. The reference to Friends of Aaron Goss was an edit to my post by lee (hi lee!)
We did break 12, but we didn't go far.
More than anything it made miss the good old days. Time for some cleaning around here ...

Some good stuff from last night:
1. The escort service from REI
1.5 My new water- and windproof gloves from REI
2. The gorgeous cityscape as we looked out over Lake Union
3. Climbing steep hills on a fall night
4. Arriving at the pub on time for the party
5. The wacky band and twirling on the dance floor (thanks, Orion!)

I quite enjoyed the ride up to Queen Anne. I was catching up with the group, and therefore know nothing of the complaining, but I did find myself bouncing my taint up some cobblestone cliff faces. The steeper the shit you're climbing the more satisfaction you feel at the top.
I did learn one important lesson last night...
Cold weather and hills make me want a flask that I can easily get at while riding... None of this opening my bag shit.

I had a pretty good time last night. The hills were a bit of a drag but every time I got to the top of another one I had to give my self a little "fuck yeah!"

I have to give some credit to Joby because I don't think I would have the initiative to ride up queene anne myself for no reason, and I'm glad I did. It was a nice jaunt. the cobblestone hill where 1/2 the people were walking and the magic parking lot I could have done without, yeah, but on the whole, a lot of elevation gain makes for a nice hard ride when it's not so many miles, and at the end of the day I don't really care that much to actually complain about it or make it an issue.
on a downer note I'm about ready to write off westlake ave north of virgina as one of those streets to not ride on ever. between the slut tracks and cars passing on the right its just a disaster waiting to happen every time.

With lifted feet, hands still,
I am poised, and down the hill
Dart, with heedful mind;
The air goes by in a wind.
Swifter and yet more swift,
Till the heart with a mighty lift
Makes the lungs laugh, the throat cry:--
'O bird, see; see, bird, I fly.
'Is this, is this your joy?
O bird, then I, though a boy
For a golden moment share
Your feathery life in air!'
Say, heart, is there aught like this
In a world that is full of bliss?
'Tis more than skating, bound
Steel-shod to the level ground.
Speed slackens now, I float
Awhile in my airy boat;
Till, when the wheels scarce crawl,
My feet to the treadles fall.
Alas, that the longest hill
Must end in a vale; but still,
Who climbs with toil, wheresoe'er,
Shall find wings waiting there.

You're right Lee, everyone who comes out in the winter would rather be sitting at home doing nothing. We only come out so that you can lead us around fucking aimlessly, with no clear destination, trying as hard as you can to show us what a great biker you are. No one comes out for a fun ride with fun people. Our only desire is to chase your stupid ass around. Without your perfect wisdom, we would would scatter to the wind like seeds of a dandelion.
