This happened to me in Wallingford once, minus the lung penetration. Some douche in a big SUV going the opposite direction leaned out the window and pegged me. Drew blood on my arm. Couldn't catch him. Lee was there, and he tells the story funnier than I do.

At a unit cost of about $1400 (per use), pretty much any cyclist can afford one! And with an armour penetration of 400-550 mm, not even Hummers stand a chance.

Wow, this guy is seriously a Zen master. I honestly don't know what I would've done, but I definitely would have been a lot more angry, that's for sure.
I find the amount of weird abuse we have to put up with absolutely mind-blowing. I mean, what if drivers of full sized vehicles started shooting and throwing things at drivers of compact cars? Or drivers of compact cars started actively trying to run motorcyclists off the road? Total insanity.

peter's blog goes into a little more detail. apparently it was probably a bb loaded into a .22 caliber pistol, giving it greater penetration than a normal bb gun. i first reaid about it via kent peterson's blog, where he talks about how peter is more than a zen master, really.
he sounds like an awesome guy and i hope he recovers flawlessly. i hope less good things for the people who shot him.

Or, at some point some idiot is going to pull a similar stunt against an elected official or off-duty bike cop or a kid and all hell will break loose.
Can you imagine what would have happened if it had been Ron Sims who had been hit?

The AT-4 is a good choice when thinking anti armour. A better choice on the other hand is the javelin. Guided missiles are win

Some guy on bikeforums said he tailored a holster for his baseball bat onto his messenger bag and strangely no drivers fuck with him anymore.
Rockets are good too.

"Cyclist shot as tensions between bikes and cars flare"
Interesting seeing as how the only thing flying in this scenario were bullets at a cyclist. Or perhaps it will be more u-locks flying in the future? Either way, it's brought to you by the Seattle PI.
This is a misleading headline, don't you think? In those instances the cyclists didn't "flare" back. It's motorists being out of control and cyclists calling the police. Strange.

I'm about ready to start flarin'
the problem is, if we started blatantly threatening motorists lives, the way they do ours, we would get hauled off to jail in a heartbeat. None of this "No citation was given" bullshit. We'd be in cuffs right then and there.

How many of us do you think it would take to tow one of these? Maybe Colin can make us a trailer.
Think we could set the radar to target 'spinners'?

Are we supposed to use this to take down the viaduct so that we can't bitch about whether we should or shouldn't have ridden on it during CM anymore?

that guy has the same commute I do. I regularlly pass him on the way downtown in the mornings, along with the rest of the fluroescent-vest crowd.
I get buzzed, honked at, cut off and all sorts of abuse on Delrdige every morning. In the evenings, I ride a block west on a side street 'cause I'm not riding as fast and it's darker out.
A clearly defined fog line is all I'm asking for Delridge, I don't even care if there is a bike lane, just set some boundaries.

You know Trev, sometimes I feel the same way, but I have to remember where I came from. So far I've had a lot of shit happen to me and to people I know here, but in my last town, I wouldn't even dare to ride a bike. Between the horrid horrid weather, and the college students/bored rednecks who would attack cyclists just because they were an easy target and it was something to do, on top of the usual hate-filled motorists, it just wasn't worth it.
