On Wednesday I'm moving from my old house, which is being torn down, to my new apartment, which is smack in the middle of awesome. I have nothing but a bike, so if anyone might be willing to help me transport stuff in something other than a pannier, that would be sweet. I don't really have any big furniture, just a dresser and a desk, but I found a couch for free on the Craigslist that I was supposed to pick up that day too. I'm not sure where that's at yet, I need to call for details, so that part may require a little driving. Anyone with a truck, etc. available who'd be willing to help me out with the promise of some beers and possibly pizza would be super cool. I'll, of course, be having an official house warming party, but I have to move in first.
Also, I'm losing my bed, so if anyone has any beds kicking around they want to get ride of on the cheap that too, would rock.
Caution: If you have both a bed and an available truck, I might make out with you.
Edit: Also, it's Brandon All American's birthday today, wish him such accordingly.

don't you have to be 25? I'm not 25.
edit: you don't have to be 25, but you do have to have a valid driver's license. Who knew, right?

ummmm no, you're smack in the middle of the bowls of the hill. hope you like screaming drunks and queen fights at 3am...
not to mention, in just a couple months you'll get to enjoy the demo/construction of of an entire block just to the north of you. but with any luck you'll have a nice view of some new condos.

I occasionally work for Flexcar:
<sales>
You need to be 21 or older.
You need a valid drivers license.
You need a clean driving record for the past 5 years. (3 years for some things, but 5 for major things like DUI and driving history)
...and if you sign up and give another flexcar member's # for the referral, they get $20 in credit.
If any of you want to join right now and you meet the criteria above, I'll put you in with a special event promo code and save you $35.

Yeah, Flexcar.
They have pickup trucks & vans in certain locations, I used a flex pickup truck to move stuff into storage once. They also have a few Mazda Miatas kicking around for hot dates.

If Brandon can haul that kind of load from Capital Hill to Crown Hill, I'm sure you can handle trailering your small amount of stuff to your new location. That red diamondback has nice low gears :)

so did Joe and I. I had a strong dislike to the people I was paired with so I quit signing up for gigs.
Joe moved to California.

Seven - Sorry, no Hummers. The Honda Element is as close as it gets.

Yeah, they had pretty high turnover recently and are doing a fair amount of restructuring. For me it is a decent side gig that gets me out talking to people more, but I only do it a few hours a month at most so I don't spend enough time with anyone for their personality to get to me.

Hell yes, I'd love to do that. How log is that though, can it fit a pretty normal sized couch? I'll have to figure out exactly where that couch is though. If it's in redmond or tacoma, I'm not sure I could hack that.

if by "smack in the middle of awesome" you mean "directly across the street from 80% of the level 3 sex offenders in the zip code" then you are fully correct.
i live three blocks from there, though, and i have seen some of the best bum fights from directly out my window.
welcome to the gulch.

The trailer is only 5' long, but here's some couch-hauling inspiration from Lee:
Dude, U-haul is the syphllitic oozing sore of moving truck companies. Ryder, Budget, a bike, your back - all of these are better than the crap U-haul rents out.

Yeah, I might just end up doing that. It just seems like such a waste since the only thing I really need a truck for is picking up that couch. The rest I can disassemble enough for a station wagon.

Yeah, that Derrick guy was a racist, chauvinist, and a homophobe. Can you believe they made him a customer care rep? Anywho, in my opinion flexcar isn't worth the trouble for the current situation. Use Colin's trailer.

Good luck.
I live on Summit above the Crescent...drunk karaoke, queens fighting and tweakers all day everyday. I'm counting down the days when my lease is up.
You know what I didn't even read this thread but guess what.
It's my birthday!!!

Well I didn't move into that house until June. But you probably did wonder about it, my two roommates are reclusive dorks. One is a LARPer and the other is really into "War" games. Not anything cool, they're basically like risk but with bigger maps and they like to make them try to follow history.....

So no trucks or anything, but what about rope? Anyone have any lengths of rope laying around?
