Oi there all you syphilitic bikefolk. The is your second warning: I'm coming to town this Thursday and I expect the presence of the point83 all-star team at my first ride in too many months. BTAG, Derrick, Al, Cass, Joby, Ash, Lee. Get both the Cats. Zanimal. All the calendar girls. Every one of 'em. Missir Langston, Denny, Raz. Miles! and his crew. Come on out. We're gonna have a Time.
Problem is I'm showing up late, and I don't have a bike. We'll have to figure something out. Miles? If you can ride your tandem and carry a cellphone I can taxi from the airport to the ride around 9:30.
yeah yeah yeah

i'd like to point out that it's been a little while since we've picked somebody up at the airport by bicycle... and 930pm is just about the perfect timeline.

yes! now that is a FANTASTIC idea!
note to self: bring tea, cookies, and whiskey. keep ice cream in freezer.
this would also be a good chance for you to pick up the loaner-bike after the ride, if you need to crash in-town.
excited!

I hear my wussy brother's homesick and is gonna be here a couple weeks.
Looking forward to seeing you Brandon. I'll definitely be there. I'm even not riding tonight to make sure my knee's all better for Thursday.

The tandem is firmly worked out.
Plan A - Kalen rides his tandem.
Plan B - Kalen can't come and I ride his tandem.
Plan C - A meteor destroys Kalen's tandem, I ride Alex's.
These plans have the approval of all stakeholders as established at the CIP last night!
Sounds like Miles and Kalen figured out the last seven miles perfectly. I'll see y'all tomorrow over on the best coast.

Where's your sense of adventure?! Next time keep at your hip like a flask.
Also: it looks to be cloudy but precipitation-free, and relatively warm for the time of The Long Dark, aka autumn.
bring cookies! whiskey! your sense of adventure!
last time I journey'd this far south (by bicycle, I should say) it was against 20mph+ headwinds and sheets of rain, I think we'll do fine.

I know, for some reason I'm really fucking excited for this ride. I think partly it's just been a stressful week for me, so I can't wait to just get out there and ride.

I really want to go on this ride.
But I am sailing all weekend and might need to devote at least part of tomorrow evening to getting all my nautical shit in order.
What I am saying is, I might miss the trek to the airport, but damn if I won't make time to crank to wherever y'all are later and meet up. Shit, I'll drop a line as soon as I start rolling and maybe our paths will cross on Airport Way or something.
Because Brandon and I go way back. We are, as you might say, brothers from different mothers, and tomorrow evening is likely the only chance I'll get to hang out with him before his return to Beantown.
Whose phone is best to call to get location. Derrick? Brandon?

aim the bike south and pedal?

One question, out of curiosity: how does one ride from Downtown to Sea-Tac? I tried to look it up on Bikely, and couldn't find jack.
one looks at a fucking map.
and would someone explain to my how this ride sounds awesome?
i understand that everybody hearts everyone, .83,is the bestest, and they're totally bff forever and ever, but damn we're not teaching retarded preschoolers here.
shove the unbridled optimism up your ass.
and i mean this in the meanest way possible.

Ben, we should go to the party for the new 2008 Metro Transit Bus Poetry book. Blue Scholars will be there.

benjamin benjamin, you're always bitching that we dont put on enough miles. airport rides always guarantee we go out into the suburban winderness, get lost, and put on lots of miles.
and shit, we have a destination, so if people get lost, they know where to meet up.
stop being a big stupid baby.

I've looked at many maps, maps don't really indicate much in the way of route wisdom, which was what I was looking for. Just because the city/county says "this is a bike route" doesn't mean jack for what the actual best way to the airport is.
Ahem, let me rephrase my original question: what is the BEST way to get from downtown to the Sea-Tac?
I'll follow the group on Thursday and find out what ONE route is, I'm sure, but I'm just curious.

no, you got me wrong. the ride sounds fine, perhaps better than most, but my point is that in no stretch of the imagination does it sound awesome.

I like to go through Kent, although it involves a ridiculous hill climb/walk to get out of the valley and up to the bluff the airport is on. Actually, via Kent is a nicer way to get home.
Going south through White Center is a more even comfortable climb, although it is longer and indirect. This is really a question for Joby, he's flown more in the last year than I have, ever.

That looks kick ass... and only adds to my unfettered and disgusting optimism that this will will be a fun ride.
Benjamin,
What, exactly, is an awesome ride in your opinion, since you always seem dissatisfied with wherever the group goes?
