It might be more realistic if we have a large group to go to Fort Dent for a beer and have Brandon take a cab to meet us there. That's were we stopped and lounged this summer on my planned route to the art-pits above Renton

Cheer up Ben!
Sure, folks will be having fun and we all know that happy people give off fumes that are mildly toxic to you but I'll pack some extra whisky to dull the itching and burning sensations!
This will be the best ride ΕVAR!!!1!

As someone who frequently this summer found myself going from South Park north into downtown, I suggest 4th Ave instead of Airport Way. Airport is better when there's traffic, but there won't be any traffic.
The diversion off Military Rd just north of the airport looks like a combination of traffic and hill avoidance, and never having traversed that road, I don't have much of an opinion on that one.

If you fuckers decide to take 4th Ave S, I might be forced to sit this one out. I get the heebie-jeebies from that road... and no ride I have ever participated that chose that route has ended well.

Maybe we should make sure Ben always has a sippy cup of whiskey before we start any ride.
Fuck that, we should ALL have sippy cups of whiskey at the start of every ride. I'm sure some company out there puts logos on sippy cups...

Miss K-a-t, given how many places in Seattle I have given myself new scars, I recommend that you build a) build a bridge b) get over it.
I have a keloid scar inside my lip from my last fantastic pavement-kissing adventure, but I still ride downtown.

The internal lip stitches are a right pain in the ass. I mean, they're right there. How can you not fiddle with them with your tongue? Even though you know it's a bad idea...

Urban Bicycle rule #1. You own all the roads. They are all there expressly for your convenience. If a road is going in the direction you wish to travel, make that road your bitch.

Ben. Listen. There've been a lot of snarky posts in response to this but this one is serious.
This is because you're not riding enough. If you were here, snarling, you'd help scare the simpering "omgwtfbbq-I'm-TOTALLY-gonna-be-there" crowd away.
The angry and cynical contingent is wussing out and losing ground to the "This sux I can't come because of some other shit in my life no one cares about" contingent. Don't let it happen. Get back here and help us make .83 the comfortable sink for inner anger that it was meant to be!

True, but the I'd suggest 1st instead of 4th. The 2' high guardrails on the northbound side of the bridge over the railroad tracks give me the heebie-jeebies too.
But the rest of it is all good! Almost Live characters included.

I checked the climbing using mapmyride on a few variations of desmoines/air cargo and they are all about the same elevation gains.

I was referring to the first map's recommendation of Des Moines -> 128th -> 24th when you could just go Military -> 24th, a much more direct route. Since 24th and 128th is a local maximum (note 'Hilltop Park' at the intersection), you can't avoid the elevation gain, but you can climb it more gradually, which is what I believe Des Moines gets you.
I don't see why you'd take Des Moines all the way down to 156th, as you mapped. It still climbs the hill, it's more out of the way, and for all we know, there's construction going on around there (I know of at least 3 projects: 3rd Runway, Sound Transit, and some general airport car access upgrades). There was definitely a weird construction-only setup at the Des Moines road interchange with 518 when I was there last Saturday. If there's any weirdness going on, it'd be nice to be able to bail to International Blvd, which means it's better to err toward the east side of the airport than the west.

I am changing my vote for JoeBall's singletrack route.
Also good news!! My bike is all fixed up and now has new brakes!! Paul at Recycled was able to bend back the left shifter and true up the wheels because I'm lazy and don't trust myself in bike repairs.
I'm so ready for this ride!!
PS, there's more free stuff up on Frat Row: Free Campaign Signs for custom fenders:

My bike isn't free from 20/20 yet, but I'll be down in Belltown later this evening. I'll bring Stroky's glasses and start making phone calls to some of you around B's arrival time to see where you're ending up at. Hopefully, by the end of the night, Stroky will have glasses and me and Brandon can catch up about matters of cunts and taints, respectively.

OK, I'll man up. This ride is gonna be fucking epic, so one of you pigfuckers is going to have to provide whiskey. I'll follow the Rubber Side Down rule to the best of my abilities. I wouldn't miss the chance to see everyone's favorite mapmatician anyway.

anyhow, i'm going to prefunk with the .84 kids down at the owl and thistle and try to get there before the end of happy hour. a ride to the airport needs good fuel. i'm sure a ride to pies and pints does as well.
