I am in the middle of an epic planning frenzy for a bike I am planning on building and find myself in somewhat of a loss of knowledge. I'm planning a 700 disc brake wheelset, and cannot think of any good 700 disc rims. I would normally go with Dyads or Rhyno Lites for width, but they are both rim brake capable and I cannot seem to find much else which is even worth considering.

Do any of you 29ers out there have a good disc rim you like or think I should check out? Has to be 36 hole and made in a round shape.

Thanks!

dyad! might as well have the rim brake compatibility, you never know when you might want to swap wheels around.

also, i have a 700c disc brake wheelset for sale. singlespeed, though.

Mine will be a SON disc dynamo front and a SRAM i-MOTION 9 disc rear.

Should give you some idea of what I'm building...

Salsa has 35, 30, and 25mm width rim options for 700c disc rims.

http://www.salsacycles.com/rims.html

I have had good luck with both my Velocity Dyad and Salsa Delgado Cross rims.

Oh. Well then. Maybe he didn't look hard enough. I know I couldn't find any on Cap Hill.

He needs a 29 x super fat.

Oh man my brain doesn't work today.

Yes, both rims have a 622mm Bead Seat Diameter (BSD). Rim widths very though depending on the tire width they are intended for.

Yeah, I'm looking for a rim which is 24mm, or wider.

But tubes for 29ers are different. It's kind of like having a 26"x2.25" tyre and only being able to get a 26"x1.5" tube for many 29er owners. Some shops do carry them, many do not.

Where did you get the i9?

If Dutch Bike Co has them then I'll be over in a couple of hours, cash in hand. I've been trying to get one for over a year. So far my best option has been to have someone import 50 of them for me.

I don't have one yet, but look to have a source in the next week or so. I have family in Europe who may be able to get one (or more) for me.

I haven't asked about it yet, but there is a chance we can get them thru Dutch Bikes.

As long as you get freewheel or disc. The coaster brake and i-Brake will not work for any of you lot given the limit of a 1.73 to 1.9 sprocket to cog ratio. You can go under and not blow it up if you have rim or disc though.

I'm currently riding these.

They're 24 spokes instead of 36 like you asked, but they ride the same. I use them on my 'cross bike and on my commuter bike. They hold up very nicely. It took me landing on them lengthwise to take them out of true. Even then, it was a pretty simple truing job.

Jamie and both ride those and we CAN'T STAND THEM. I've had to rebuild them a number of times and will come home from work many nights with one or two totally loose spokes (despite spoke prep). I'm still looking into sourcing 24 hole Velocity Fusions to rebuild from scratch.

As for the i9 - I'm interested if it can do a OLD of ~120 in a rim brake configuration. I was planning on just doing a Nexus 8 Red (can do 123).

The stated OLD is 135, and I don't see a way to loose 15mm. I think you're SOL.

Sheldon sells a Nexus 8 spaced to 123, so I know it can be done. Looking at the Alfine in Black, and it's got the center-lock brake hookup, so I doubt it'll get skinny.

mavic speedcity is another 24 spoke option. I sold a set a few month ago. I only rode them for about 1000 miles, but I rode them extremely hard. It's a very tough wheel.

Montlake bike shop has a set right now.
