Hey piggy, put down the turkey and gravy and get your your bike because Sunday the 25th of November we are doing a fatty ride!
After lots of thinking and researching good trails I ended up coming back to a thread Henry started in July for a ride that never happened. But oh, it will. Effing perfect. Thanks for mapping it out Henry.
This should be mostly flat, pretty easy, some upsy downsy, but suck it up. You'll have just spend the last 4 days carb-loading.
Rain or shine we will meet at 8:30 at Espresso Vivace next to the REI in downtown. Come fed. We're just grouping up, getting coffee and rolling out.
Espresso Vivace Alley 24
227 Yale Ave N
Seattle, WA 98109
Won't you join me?
UPDATED INFO
My phone number is 206.718.6203.
Ring if you're running late in the morning!
Come fed.
Bring food for along the way.
We will make a group decision for when we would like to deviate from the path long enough to shove more food in our face, grab supplies, etc. If we can hold out till Issaquah for any real stops I think that'd be a great place to stop for food, drink some beers and do that last leg home.
Trevor, consider this an ironing mission. I'm willing to bet I'm gonna be so down to do it again!
Those who will be coming along to sweat out some of those calories we've just consumed for certain:
Me
Kalen
Jessica
PJDiddy
Rob
Chris
Maybes:
Surly
John
Kevin
Not Coming:
Matthew
Trev
Gregg

Am I missing anyone?

If you through in a little leg south of the lake and up sunset rd and along the renton issaquah road behind sauk mountain on the south end....and then on the north end you add a leg up to duval, around paradise lake road to maltby and west as far as locust way through maltby.... you will add some parts that should not be missed.
Do it in reverse and you can have breakfast in malltby, which is always nice
..
but that way you skip the ugly I90 corridor and just have to deal with renton... which isn;t so bad on a sunday...
it does add one or two small hills, but they aren't too bad...
and it adds some really nice vistas...

Dammit, I think this may eclipse my Gin Ride in that I'd rather go on this, and I don't know if I want the Gin Ride the day before a long distance ride like this. Being hung over from gin and then doing 80 miles might not be such a good idea.
Unless people sound really interested in the Gin Ride, I'll kill the thread and postpone it. It will rise again, but in the meantime it might be better to do something a little more wintery... grappa, scotch, hot toddies, mmmmmmmmmm.

What about the day before an 80 mile ride, which is the date you proposed for your gin ride?
Fewer than 10 replies, and people have already confused it with 2 different dates. Anyone else want to give it a try?

I want to do both the Gin Ride and also my ride (obviously.) If you don't change the date I will still be on the Gin ride, but it might be nice to not follow up an all day drunken Saturday with 80 miles...
This one is firm. I don't want a bunch of messy screwing around with the info. So it's up to you, Paul!

80 miles will follow on the heels on the gin consumption. If I can get my ass out of bed the morning after the Gin Ride, I will be there.

I'm not much for gin, but I am for a nice long ride. Count me in.
Anybody want to tandem this? We could even switch captaining duties halfway through.

That's what fenders and decent sized tires are for, duh.
And for the rest of you. Listen to ben, you've been warned.

Hey Kalen if the ankle isn't all good by the next weekend I may take you up on the tandem. I really want to do the ride and I don't think 80 mi on the ankle solo is gonna be good.

Fuck you duncan, this ain't no waambulance. Fine, if you're gimpy, you can strap in your good foot and ride like that guy on cap hill with one leg.
Also, if anybody wants to go on a long ride earlier in the week (I'm thinking over the water - Bainbridge, Kingston, Vashon, Southworth...) I have all of Thanksgiving week off. </thread_hijack>

Let's talk (PM me, god forbid, no planning threads)... I am not planning on taking time off, but certainly would if the right situation presented itself.

i'd worry about the drunks in 4x4s and shitty shoulders through there. i'm out there often (in-laws) and folks there dont take kindly too bikes in the roads.
just sayin

Oh, and the stretch through Duvall Carnation is a trail. Not so worried about crappy shoulders.

Still, you're liable to run into some traffic when crossing 5th and Jackson. Marathoners start in waves from Seattle Center from 7:15 to 8:15, and head down 5th to the I-90 onramp near Uwajimaya.

Still have an empty seat on the tandem for this. Anybody? Bueller?
On a ride this long, maybe I'll just have to ride it solo and expect to pick somebody up when they break down...

No Gregg, he works on Sundays. Might come to the meetup, but we'll see.
I was planning to come to this and surprise all of you, but it looks like I'm doing a "dead stick" berth shift (meaning it's me and the captain using tugs to drive around) 'cos some stuff is broken and now I'll be working 16-18 hours a day and sleeping on the boat until we actually go out on our little business trip.
I'm sorry. I wanted it to be a surprise. I'll see you guys in March or April.

damn.
8:30... I thought it was at noon...
I am probably going to be racing down at seatac... I figured I would race, have breakfast and then ride on down to ride with you guys.... but that exactly conflicts.
If I decide I want potential volume less nice race time then I'll zero out on the race and be there... the two are pretty equally balanced in my head right now... one without the other is a definite zero... but we'll see...
