I ride from Ravenna to Downtown every day. How is it possible that I haven't gotten eaten by the horrible traintracks monster?

Oh yeah ... don't take westlake.

Well, I was hoping for something I hadn't considered. Given a choice between pointlessly climbing part of Capitol Hill and dealing with the retards at the I-5 onramp, or Westlake, me and my 1.5" tires will stick with Westlake.

Not sure about you folks, but I cannot carry a family size load of groceries on the bus while running to pick up the kids with the the dog. It is scary how unrealistic these left wing wacko nut jobs are about mass transit. Think about it. Why are SUVs so popular? Because they get the job done. Sure, maybe a lesbian with no family can ride to her government job carrying her lunch in her little backpack, but give me a break. The mass of folks I know cannot live like that.

I do believe that the SLUT is free through the month of December. And according to her website, "Bicycles are allowed in the center section of the streetcar vehicles". Has anyone considered a mass-boarding-with-bikes of one of the streetcars during the Taming The SLUT ride? Perhaps as a grand finale?

I see this as a protest against this after-thought mentality of power players in Seattle.

Implementing, removing, or fundementally altering aspects of our road system in a manner that negatively impact cyclists is bull shit. I don't care what neighborhood it affects. I don't care if it directly impacts me. What I do care about is that Mayor Nickels and this city is rah-rah cycling when it's photo worthy or Earth Day or Bike to Work month and then go about their merry business the rest of the time. It's crap.

Any time there is a discussion about changing roadways, I want the power players to immediately check to see if cyclists safety needs have been considered and addressed with the cycling community. I want SBAB or Cascade or someone to be involved in all aspects of these changes. No more of this "sorry, we'll get to your issues next time around" nonsense. Always ahead of time. Period.

what the fuck is wrong with you people. asking the city to put up a fucking sign saying "dear cyclists, these tracks may cause you to fall down and break your pelvis" seems pretty fucking reasonable. also having them mark an alternate route that gets you to the same place.

i'm not upset at the SLUT tracks because i'm worried about how the tracks will impact me directly as a cyclist, fuck i've ridden on interstates and on aurora in the snow with a loaded trailer. and i distinctly remember some of your pussy asses (sketchy) complaining about the ride out on mlk south.

if you're going to take something that until recently was a major bicycle arterial and a very logical way to get into downtown and make it a hazard the least they could do is add proper warning and alternate route signage, investigate some remediation options (flange filler), and not do the same stupid thing - putting tracks in the outside lane - when they extend it.

not everyone has access to a community like this. people who come visit the city, folks who just start commuting or are otherwise new, people who don't ride their bikes regularly enough to be confident with a horizontal bunny-hop in traffic but need to go somewhere in SLU, etc. just because most of us here are totally fine doesn't mean it's not egregious that the city thought it was appropriate to hang cyclists out to dry and not do a single fucking thing to ameliorate the situation.

i don't disagree with you. but the city seems to think that cyclists should either know that from birth, or find out the hard way which seems like bullshit.

Speaking of signs, my free beer offer for the first person to tell me where they found an ad for the ride hasn't been claimed, so apparently I've been doing a shitty job. Any tips?

I had an idea for getting a thin-strip type ad to put on the top tube of city bike racks, like where all those Dank Bags stickers are, but I don't have anything in a suitable format. The city racks have a 1.9" diameter, so call it an ad <3" tall and either 8.5" or 11" wide depending on how you think it would print up best.

Something like http://septor.name/images/point83/thin-westlake-ghetto.jpg but slightly less horrible.

I'm really starting to think someone on the ride is going to eat shit turning from Westlake on to Lenora, btw.
