I saw a Van Dessel Country Road Bob and wonder if any of you assholes know who owns it, as i'd love to talk to them about it and maybe work a test ride.
I've been drooling over these since pictures of the 07 and would like to hear from an owner before I make a blind purchase (chringe).

Ah, one thing to note about the CRB that annoyed me -- it comes with a 4-bolt crank (and still does, based on that photo). I switched mine to a 5-bolt to create more options for replacing the chainring. It also seemed like the bolts came loose more quickly on the 4-bolt.

I find it odd that the seatstays are curved to provide more tire clearance while the chainstays are curved to provide less. Almost all bikes are already tight in the chainstays, why make it tighter there?
I'll be surprised to see TrikerTrev show up on a 2 wheeled vehicle.

agreed. kona is another company that totally ruins nice looking bikes with their ugly fork.
the inset chainstays seem odd to me as well. it's like they left clearance for a mythical 60t big ring or something. still, if you don't mind having your fenders start mid-seat tube, it'll apparently fit 700x44 tires:

I went for the Redline fork for my single speed/fixed setup. I had a Ritchey Fork to start, but opted for the simplicity of the straight blade.

There's less space than you think -- my 44t chainring cuts it pretty close.

4 bolt cranks = fixable
wanky forks (i fully agree)= fixable
curvs that make me feel gushy in my pants = yeah
so far with even the chain stay oddities, thats no biggy (my last upright was a KONA ah-ah after all).
and yeah fegits, i'll ride an upright.
but i'm still not getting the info i desire...WHO rode the 06ish CRB to the release party? One of you choadmunchers knows...
The ugly fork is a holdover from their Gin & Trombones cyclocross rig. The low rake makes it more agile and smoother through off camber sections. The unusual outwards flare at the hubs is because when you ride muddy courses, the mud builds up at the hub and cantilevers.

I was there on my road bob, the one with yellow fenders and a sparrow bar, if that's the one you saw. the down tube is not curved on the smallest size frame.
Nothing except the frame and fork is original on mine.
its not a miracle ride but very stable if not on the harsh side; a bit over built for the road and certainly tough enough for full load touring. I've tested it with a loaded trailer and I couldn't feel any flex.
the frame design is really versatile, the drop outs accomodate a derailleur hanger and a single speed hub. all the cable guides are removable. it has rack and fender mounts on the back, unfortunately not on the fork. and it fits the biggest fenders available even with 35mm tires.
my biggest beef is the toe overlap, but that's my dilemma since its their smallest size. larger frames aren't likely to have that much of a problem.
I am still pretty happy with it. it gets more attention than it should.

i'm really stuck at this point as to which upright i wanna get. I'm also considering a Kona Dr.Dew (i loved my Kona aa-aa, and shoulda never sold that frame set).
The CRB sure has the advantage of versatility on it's side...i can go single, learn fixed, toss a cassetted wheel on for a tour, big wheels, skinny wheels, whatever. Thats really cool IMO to have usability options like that.
