I concur with reference (1).

Also, since I'm well past my fifth day of my first week of .83, I am sad and disheartened that you guys haven't spotchecked me on my twelve general orders yet:

1. To take charge of this post and all government property in view!
2. To walk my post in a military manner, keeping always on the alert, and observing everything that takes place within sight or hearing!
3. To report all violations of orders I am instructed to enforce!
4. To repeat all calls from posts more distant from the guard house than my own!
5. To quit my post only when properly relieved!
6. To receive, obey and pass on to the sentry who relieves me, all orders from the Commanding Officer, Command Duty Officer, Officer of the Deck, and Officers of the Watch only!
7. To talk to no one except in the line of duty!
8. To give the alarm in case of fire or disorder!
9. To call the Officer of the Deck in any case not covered by instructions!
10. To salute all officers and all colors and standards not cased!
11. To be especially watchful at night, and, during the time for challenging, to challenge all persons on or near my post and to allow no one to pass without proper authority!

Fidelity is up and obedience is down on my bayonet buckle, sir.

the TOS is just a means by which people can anonymously hate on and single out individuals. i, for one, am glad to see it gone, since I don't think it did anything but create divisions within the group. Anonymity breeds jackassery; if edits were signed, it would be a different story, but as it stood, the TOS was nothing but trouble.

Exactly.

Besides, a little public chastising is part of our Puritanicaln background. Scarlett Letter anyone?

If you have public chastizing to do, have the balls to sign your name to it. Otherwise, just stick to spreading rumors and talking shit about people behind their backs in person.

Anonymous TOSing is nothing but trouble. I stand by that.

kat, what you might not realize is that the one person who took the brunt of the TOS (Aaron Goss) WAS told these things in person, to his face, multiple multiple times, but unfortunately it just hasnt ever sunk in his head. it's not something he hadnt heard before.

I personaly like it, it's perfictualy fucked up. Remember this group road .83 miles to there first drink on the inagural ride. Thats kinda fucked up buy most peoples standards. This forem is fucked up. I'm fucked up, my spelling is fucked up. And there is no spell check on this fucked up thing. I LOVE THIS FUCKED UP WORLD

bRING BACK THE TOS

JUST MY THOUGHTS MY THOUGHTS ARE FUCKED UP

as resident historian. our first ride was thanksgiving night and we went to west seattle (alki).. the .83 miles to a bar ride was a few rides later. it took us a while to figure out a name, and that was the ride that did it

Fuck the TOS, we need to hire an Official Point83 Mythologist who can write epic poems about us. We'll pay him/her entirely in rye whiskey, steaks, sausage and sauerkraut, and keep him/here chained in Henry's basement.

Actually, ro is the official .83 poet laureate. You would know that if you had the opportunity to read the TOS.

Miles: Go fuck a pig. People always have to deal with the social ramifications of their actions; this is pretty fucking obvious in this group as anywhere. I just hate it when an entire group focuses their negative energy on one person (deserving or not) because that is when we start to get Columbine Syndrome.

Put everyone down. Beat the shit out of people with real gloves. Just... have the balls to do it non-anonymously, or, better yet, in person. That's my issue.

Hmmph. I did exactly what you asked, and fairly tactfully, I thought.

surlykat wrote:

Being talked about on the internet is a part of the social ramifications of participating in this group, be it forum or wiki.

surlykat wrote:

You're leaning dangerously close to Godwin's Law here. Anyway, blaming someone's anti-social and deranged reaction on their victims is misplaced blame at it's worst. If you think something is "deserved" then it seems pretty backwards to hate it anyway.

Well, I do not understand how a wiki got set up that doesn't have attribution. That's just dumb, so we agree there. I did not use the TOS, though I did echo some of its sentiments in person. I will always prefer in-person for airing my grievances, so perhaps we agree there too.

Phew. Two posts is already one post over my usual indulgence in any particular flame war, so I think I'm done.

In the past, Aaron has successfully used the threat of legal action to have non-anonymous posts critical of his behavior removed from message boards.

**Retraction**

There are certain forum posting "techniques" (i use the term loosely) that irritate me to no end. But shit, if that is my biggest concern then I need to get a life.

So, may the TOS do what it will. I am retracting my calling for it simply because I don't give a good god damn.

Minions-

Let it be known that this administrator is all for Tossin' About.

Any wiki software ya'll are into other than MediaWiki (which would be my default choice)

I think requirements are:
php/mysql
requires authentication (and can be plugged in to phpbb's authentication)
uh... isn't really shitty?
