Note: this is not a planning thread, more like a heads up.
2007 Christmas Ship schedule. Starred beaches will have bonfires. Also, they tend to have free cookies. The music is generally eh, and having it piped in over the water from huge-ass speakers on the boats doesn't help much.
Of the Tuesday/Thursday sailings with bonfires, these seem the most likely to work with a Tuesday/Thursday ride:
Tuesday Dec 11 8:30-8:50 Blue Ridge (I'm sure they'd love to see us!)
Thursday Dec 20 8:55-9:15 Magnuson
Magnuson seems more promising, but I've been in their parking lot during one of these events, and I can't say I'm impressed with the general driving habits of NE Seattleites trolling for parking in a dark parking lot.
Blue Ridge has the advantage of better light displays nearby. But I'm guessing they'll kick us out pronto after the ship leaves, whereas we could probably kick back at Magnuson for a while (and, given the idiocy that will likely be taking place in the parking lots, that would probably be a good idea).

The christmas ships are something I go to every year with my family. It would be most disturbing to me to get wasted on whiskey and go watch them.

The problem is that when Derrick shows up in his Santa outfit all the little kids will flock to him. Sounds sweet but I'm pretty sure it ends with Derrick in jail and some poor child scarred for life.

it surprises me that we've never been through blue ridge, i've always wanted to follow that (presumably very hilly) route north from golden gardens to carkeek.

Incidentally, I believe this is the location of the Blue Ridge Beach Club, or whatever they call it:
Edit: It's a private beach, which is open to the public this one night; they don't really want you there, but they can't figure out a way to keep you out. They seem to be most worried about some drunk getting hit by a train, and then suing them, although I'm sure there are plenty of residents who just don't like the commoners in general.
Looks like a walk down a steep hill to the beach, so if you go to the beach you'll probably want to leave your bikes up top. Again, looks like Magnuson is a better idea. But I rarely go on Tuesday rides, so feel free to ignore me. I'll be there on the 20th trying to herd the cats to Magnuson.

I saw the ships up at Richmond Beach last year. They had a pretty huge bonfire going on too. That place was way cooler than Magnuson, although I've never been to the Blue Ridge place. If the tide is low enough, it might be possible to walk there from Golden Gardens, although that means we'd be missing out on a bunch of great hill riding.

There are lots of cool places to see the Christmas ships. Unfortunately, most of them will not coincide with a Tuesday/Thursday ride this year. Blue Ridge and Magnuson are basically it, assuming you want a bonfire.
