Aggg!!
Gregg: I hope you're okay.
WHAT IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE!?!?!
It's even worse out here on the Eastside where I've been staying. I regularly get yelled at by passing motorists for god know what reasons. If I do something that isn't traffic legal even when it doesn't affect a single motorist people go nuts. GET OVER IT. I'm on a bike!
I've never been so scorned as a pedestrian...

commuting to work and school on my bike makes me hate people.
I hope Gregg is alright; is a condolences note in order, Kat? Where would it get sent if so?

Which give a little more, but not enough.
It is good to know the address of people like this so we all know to be careful when we are in their neighborhood.

Edited for the purposes of possible legal ass-covering. May be pressing charges; haven't decided yet. Anyway, if you want to hear the story, contact either myself or Gregg...

Not passed out, but rather sound asleep. Not injured. Just to clear that up.

good thing i stayed home, this stroy likely would have been MUCH worse (and i'd likely be in jail).
god i'm glad you're all okay.
WTF is this city coming to? threats of death over CM, shootings ect?
im disgusted with this towns "me first" attitude. FUCKIN DISCUSTED! The cops did NOTHING?!?! WHAAA???
I think it's time to take a ride to Olympia and have some discussions with the Gov about car/bike penalties. This was nothing short of road rage...and they were let go?!?
LORD OF THE FRIES...i'm talking to you!

When possible obtain photos of assailants with camera phone.
You can legally take a picture of anyone, you just can't make money off of it without a release.

Talking to Olympia is more in line with the Bicycle Alliance of Washington, good folks but I haven't had much interaction with them yet.
The first step I'm pushing for in the seattle bicycle advisory board is to see them get the attention of SPD (while the ped board is doing the same thing) who has not been sending a representative to their meetings so they can ask about enforcement related issues.
Yes, this is absolutely road rage. For some reason that I don't really understand, charges are almost never immediately filed and if they get filed it is done weeks, months, or sometime up to a year later by the prosecutor's office.
My impression is that at the state level you need to do lots of schmoozing with every representative and convince them to support your cause before you try to get anything introduced or it will just be bitchslapped back to square one. That said, I think change at that level is still quite possible if you want to devote a few years to the effort.
Depressed yet?

Can you expound on what's necessary to get the advisory board to get an SPD rep at their meetings? (Or PM me.) I am all fired up and ready to write letters and make calls... (Actually I really just want to punch something...but...)

Here's the situation:
Both the Seattle Bicycle Advisory Board and the Seattle Pedestrian Advisory Board have requested that SPD send a representative to at least one of their meetings. Since these requests have not been honored, the SBAB and SPAB are in the process of drafting a joint letter for general release basically saying that we have no pressing issue with your work but we need to have a communications channel with your department and you need to provide a represenative.
I'm not sure how much weight that letter carries, the SBAB also drafted a letter against the Stone Way sharrows...and we see what that got us.
Once we get a representative into the meeting, especially if the rest of the board still "has no pressing issues", I'll let everyone here and on Cascade know and we can all show up and air our concerns or at the very least I will bring a list of concerns. The advisory board seems to be somewhat responsive when you make the case to them that something is important to the cycling communities and if there is continued inaction they can draft an official letter from the board advising the mayor and city council and SPD that there is a problem.
My best recommendation to everyone here that wants to help is:
4. Call or write to the city council members. Some of them have already expressed concerns about the "reduction in accidents" and measurement methodology clauses in the Bicycle Master Plan and they all heard David "Pit Bull" Hiller say that "SPD is so slow to respond that many cyclists hit by cars are forced to accept a ride to the hospital from the person who hit them" and often the fire department is the only responder to bicycle injury accidents.

Kat, Gregg, am SO GLAD you are okay.
Jesus fuckin christ!
this city is going going gone.
I'd really like to know what happened before I write a letters to SPD, so I'll talk to one of you first.
be safe, all. please. or I'll kick your ass.

Earlier this year at Critical Mass a driver pull one of these out of his glove box and started to open his door. I think he finally thought better of it, which is good, because he was surrounded by quite a few cyclists who probably would have grabbed their ulocks if I actually tried to use the thing.
