so I got a shit ton of requests and I'll be picking up shirts today sometime. a couple things to note, I will be changing the Arabic from the Shahadah; "there is no God but God (Allah), and Muhammad is the messenger of God."
translation of "bicycle jihad"
كفاح درّاجة
I have a friend that works at the Saudi embassy and the center for middle eastern studies in DC who is translating "Bicycle Jihad" into Arabic and will write the text in a similar calligraphy. I'll post the image as soon as I get it. I was also thinking about putting a small (~3") pointythree logo on the back between the shoulders?

cool.
I stopped wearing white tshirts as outer layers when I stopped using alumnium-based anti-perspirant. Coincidentally the same time my grandfather developed dementia.

Is it offensive? If I read about jihad on that fine source of all information, wikipedia,
I get the impression that a bicycle jihad might be quite consistent with the faithful practice of one's faith.
Not that people WON'T be offended, but is it really offensive? (I mean like cartoons of Muhammad offensive?)
yes, like cartoons of Muhammad offensive.
Jihad is not a general purpose word meaning "Fight for what you believe in".
it Specifically means "Struggle for Islam"
Hey, y'all should put anything you want on shirts. Just understand how deeply offensive this is to a particular minority.

this is actually the reason I want this shirt, and won't buy gasoline (or a car, but that's a larger arguement). It is not Islam's fault they have all the oil. Islam is a beautiful religion, doused like a Prudhoe Bay duck with the corruption, filth and violence of Oil. That and religious fanatics, but hey, every major religion has those (Pat Buchannon)
I'll wear it in support of Islam, and happilly explain why to anyone offended enough to say something.

s/Oil/Valuable Natural Resources/g
This is a problem in a lot of nations that have underdeveloped industrial capacity relative to the value of the natural resources they contain. The wealth extracted (by foreign governments/corporations) usually corrupts the country and destroys it. Similar parallels can be drawn to Spain after the wealth from the New World flooded it. There are some good political and economic papers and books on the subject.
Unhappy the nation that has too much gold.

Not too bad. I must admit I didn't put it to a lot of analysis. It was more of a Shiny! reaction for me.

What is hilarious is how many times I have been asked to translate Arabic or Farsi script by people who think the script is Hebrew.
Your ruse would have probably worked!
Speaking of which, it would be sorta cool to have a shirt that said "shut the fuck up and ride" or "bicycle love" or something of that nature in as many languages as possible. How many languages are represented by the members of this club?
If you inquiring as to our ethnic backgrounds I have no idea. But if we also take into consideration the second or third languages that some speak we would have more I'm guessing.
If not obvious I do like the idea of "bicycle love" or something similar in many languages.

But surely you're buying natural gas or heating oil? Either that, or it's getting rather chilly in that townhome this time of year.

Well shut my mouth, I didn't even know they built new with electric heat anymore.

Just so y'all know, I bear no malice whatsoever toward Islam or its followers. I was appropriating the visual culture of a struggle. It's an homage to a faith and world order that re-civilized the middle east and united a fifth of the world's people. Also, I'm pretty sure someone from the outside labeled us jihadists. If you're still offended, we can talk it over in person.
I'm actuall getting a friend of mine to make me a "secret of divine civilization" sticker in Farsi

In all fairness I haven't seen you since this was posted.
Also, I'm almost positive that the term Jihad actually means "Striving in the ways of God" and just because they pronounce "God" as "Allah" doesn't make is any less valid. In a film I saw about homosexuality in Islamic nations, being gay in such a hostile place was repeatedly referred to as "jihad" or "my personal jihad" by people who know what it means. I have serious doubts that anyone would take any real offense to this, except for idiot white americans who think "Jihad" refers to terrorism.
