sounds like fun. This will be the weekend of my birthday (1.23) and this sounds like a brilliant trip. Is this MLK weekend?

if the weather's not shitty, I (and anyone else who's interested) could probably ski up to Muir in the early morning and back down to Paradise by mid afternoon. For anyone interested in trying out backcountry skiing or snowboarding, the muir snowfield route is pretty fun and very easy/intermediate. plus there's just something special about a lunch of smoked salmon and a bottle of wine at 10,000 feet...

If there isn't enough snow depth, we could build a Quinzhee, and if there are enough people we can build two Quinzhee's and with a little red dye on top of each, two perfect white mounds... I guess you can see where I'm going with this.. if not check out what a Quinzhee is.
I'm in, I have snow stuff (snow saw, shovel, shoes, plenty of warn stuff).

good, I'm glad to see that there is some interest in going. Rob, I have to discourage people from going to muir camp by skis or by foot unless you have a shit ton of expearence in this sort of thing. summer time navagation is straight fwd. but winter is another story. This is NOT the place to try backcountry
snowboarding or skiing.

seditiouscanary, maybe if you went of any of these camping trips you would see that there actually a lot of fun and for some a huge learning experience. If your not going to go or are opposed to going. SHUT THE FUCK UP no one really cares what you think anyways. The last camping trip I planed, was one hell of a good time, and no one complained. 9 people had a great time, and
those 9 people and more are going on this one. EXCEPT FOR YOU, sweet.

I think you posted your no-show to the wrong person. It is my understanding that Ben would like to be informed whenever a person can not make any point 83 ride or activity. He would also like as much of a explaination as possible (300 words or more is good).
Just for future reference.

like Langston, I celebrate my escape from vagina this week too! oh boy...
I'm gonna see what I can do to actually MAKE this...although my track record is shitty enough to place on a cracker and feed to our mascot.
sketch, whats a average rental cost for boots, pants, parka and gloves? I certainly don't have quality, high country snow gear. So unless someone is willing to loan, i'll need to anticipate the rent.

This sounds like a lot of fun but it's so hard for me to plan anything this far in advance I can't make any promises. Maybe I'll have all my vermont winter gear by then, which would be nice.

we'll be going right by my old high school and town (eatonville, ashford, elbe, mineral, etc are all my old stomping grounds). a stop on the way up or on the way down at Aaron's Ark restaurant in eatonville is a must. it's also across the street from the last good grocery and beer stop on the way up.

102 mi by maps.google.com
I might be inclined to ride it if I could get a ride home. I'm not worried about the length, or the fact that the last bunch of miles are up a mountain. I'm worried about any descending I'd have to do on the way (in Jan, at altitude).

lots of hills and some big valleys inbetween south hill, graham, eatonville, and up to elbe. you're a beast if you ride this route.
if i go, ill have space to bring one back though.

if I went - I'd probably have to rent a stanglor or a scooter to pace behind to make the flats parts go by easily, then just grunt the hills.

I'd like to ride up this, but I don't think I want to spend the extra day doing it. I'd pull the line my fare share, but I'm pretty sure Martin would burn me up and drop me.

Attending this here camping trip I will be.
But riding there I will not. I just want to go and have fun.
Biking may well be almost my entire life. But sometimes you just gotta put the bike down for a bit and go hiking or camping. I'm not trying to make this trip miserable just because BIKES MUST BE INVOLVED!!!!
That said I'm really looking forward to this!

I have great hopes to pack in snowshoes, a snowboard, beacon and probe, hike to the highest of high mountains, huck myself off very large cliffs, do extremely stupid things, and remind myself why I love my goddamn life. I expect at least Sketchy to partake in like activities.. even though I heard he sucks at skiing :)
