Yes Remi i'll drive you and your 'girlfriend', but the battery isn't going to last very long in the cold so i'd just leave her at home.
I just picked some of these up from Second Ascent, last year's model, hiding under a stack of new skis.
If I can get out of that work meeting, I'll be there.

Hmm.. now that it's actually January, maybe I'll start paying attention to what's going on here.
I've got a 15F bag, thermarest, and could probably dig out enough warm clothes to not die. Been ages since I've done any sort of winter/snow camping, so what else do I need?
Oh, and who's offering me a ride? I'm not bringing my girlfriend, she actually belongs to Remington.

Kalen, you should be ok with the bag and thermarest. Warm foot wear should be your main concern. And a good tent.
This also goes for everyone else. I have a 4man tent for 4 of you so start pairing up.
I may see about renting an REI basecamp 6. It's a 6 person monster that is actually very sound. I'll get rental prices.
Anyone that is bringing there tents are going to need some wide snow stakes. I may make a bunch of wood ones for people to use.
Everyone need to bring ONE bundle of fire wood. I'll have a burning barrel.

Snow Cave info:
We need a least 3 avalanche shovels for each cave. I am bringing one plus snow probe to find the best place to build the snow cave(s) and snow saw for cutting blocks. I always recommend that if you haven't slept in a snow cave you also have a tent set up, so if you find yourself unable to stand the close quarters that a snow cave creates you have an alternative.
I am also bring some battery run christmas lights which makes a cave so festive.
I bring a full thermarest type pad plus one other 3/4 pad. I put this with my zero bag in a bivy sack and have found this is a great way to stay warm in a snow cave. I think 4-5 people per cave is a good size anything any bigger and the roof begins to sag. Nothing says get me out of here like finding the snow cave roof about 6inches from your face. I will also bring some snow wands to keep peole from walking on the cave area.
Now I need a ride, anybody in the WS area going on this snow camp?

I'm not sure how many snow caves are going to be dug. I think must people are going to opt for tents. The worst part of snow caves is getting wet digging them.

On Sunday Sketchy took me snow shoeing at the pass. I am now convinced that this trip will be t-awesome as we had a blast stomping around in knee/chest deep snow at Alpental for the afternoon.
Our beligerent mascot also happens to be an excellent and caring outdoorsman.
Pictures to be up as soon as Kalen finds me the proper USB...

Wow this sounds really fun! Unfortunately I'll be teaching at snocrummy that weekend so I can't make it. You guys have fun though, I recommend bringing candles to light inside the caves or igloos (not the tents though). And be smart if you decide to hike for some powdery goodness or some cliff dropping. 8 people have died in avalanches in Washington already this year. Right now it has dumped a thick layer of heavy wet snow on top of a weak layer of light snow, so everything is about to slide like crazy. Hopefully everything that can slide will before your trip, and everything will be nice and settled. Seriously though... WATCH THE FUCK OUT IT IS TREACHEROUS RIGHT NOW!
My backcountry pack would include:
1. 30 feet of twine
2. 90% heat retaining bivy sack.
3. Small Coffee can which can be used to boil water, and also contains:
- Large, brightly colored thin plastic tarp
- parafin and dryer lint home made fire starters
- small can of sterno cooking fuel
- lighter, matches
- light stick
- lots of sugar (jolly ranchers tend to be convenient, but ground sugar can be dissolved in water for easy calories)
4. Snow Shovel
5. Beacon, Probe
6. A protective waterproof case for my herb and smoking utensile
7. Strong painkillers left over from my ankle surgery
8. Knowledge of how to correctly dig a snowcave
9. Headlamp
All of this put together should weigh between 5-10 lbs depending on the size of your pack, so it shouldn't slow you down much.
If you end up in survival mode don't eat snow, unless you can't get water any other way. It will make you cold and your body will have to burn calories like crazy to maintain your body temperature. It's much better to melt snow using a fire to heat your coffee can.

Ok, I was up at Rainer yesterday and were set to go. There has been a slight modification to the plans but it should be no big deal. We are going to be hiking in to the reflection lakes area from narada Falls. The reason being is that the fucking boy scouts have reserved the group site at paradise. Views of the mountain will be just as nice, but with far less people. And if Dr. Hillbilly becomes a problem it won't be a problem. But here is the problem. I toted the trip to be car camping trip, OOPS. Now were looking at 1.4 mile easy snowshoe hike, on marked trails. I will be going up early and have camp pre established. I really hope the everyone is still in. We're all active cyclist and this should not be a problem.

As both Susan and I now have snowshoes, we are both still very in.
I've been bugging Susan to find out for sure whether Christine (mentioned in the before time, the long-long-ago of this thread) is coming, with or without her bf, but no luck there yet. I'll inform Susan of this change in plans and get her to find out a final answer from Christine tonight, one way or another.
