Sucks ass. I hadn't ridden it in 6 months until yesterday. I remember why. I was on the way to Lucky Devel South. As soon as I hit the big "R" I remembered how arrogant drivers are on that road and immediately a backwoods "gangsta" yelled at me as he scarfed down his value menu chicken mcnuggets. HA.

Weird. I've actually had more problems in Bellevue than Rainier. Which part of Rainier in particular?

I used to live in the Central District and ride to Tukwila via Rainier through Renton. In the mornings, ~7am I would sometimes take Rainier as soon as possible since it was so smooth, fast and reasonable hills but the Rainier Valley wasn't "awake" yet. In the afternoon-evening there are way more bad/aggressive/ignorant drivers...I would only take Rainier as far north as Rainier Beach and then take the Seward Park side route.
Something like this

At least Rainier has a bike lane most of the way south of Rainier Beach, the road is pretty wide as well so most cars can give ample clearance. The speed differential still is great though.

I guess I normally get on farther south than Jackson. About where McClellan or MLK crosses Rainier. Drivers seems the cockbaggiest near the I-90 interchange in my experience.
