Anybody interested in viewing bike porn. I am planning on taking a train to Portland getting a Tom Watts cheap hotel room(anybody know of any) on Friday Feb 8th and going to the show on Sat Feb 9th, party Sat night in Portland and taking the train back on Sunday.
I am taking the folder bike so no problem with bike boxes.
The show is the weekend of Feb 9th and 10th.
Lee can you make this a sticky?

Do we really need this to be stickified for two months?

Oh Henry
You are probably right! We can stickify it in January or something. I just want people that are interested in getting train tickets with bike boxe option enough time, Dave was telling me they have a quota for that sort of thing.

I'm going, but haven't figured out dates yet. I'm thinking about train down Friday and maybe coming back Monday. I'd like a little more time to hang out in Portland.

also, the talgo trains are back in service and they take non-boxed bikes.

the mcmenamin's white eagle hotel is nearby and pretty cheap - bunk bed room for $40, double-occupancy.

i might have to engage in some kind of sitcom-esque juggling since it's my girlfriend's birthday that weekend.

I'd say to get your bike reservation REALLY REALLY early, since there's about 10 hooks for the whole train.

As much as I dislike driving, with this many people going, it really honestly makes more sense to drive, provided everyone can agree on the same schedule.

(this means that I'm also considering going)

The "official" hotel for the show is the Red Lion Convention Center (I think; check the website for the show to be sure.) And the conference rate is a fairly reasonable $88 bucks a night. I got a double and could be persuaded to share, I think, if'n the wife and kid don't tag along.

The official hotel is pretty fun too, there is a big party with all of the builders in the evening at the bar. I'm staying with a friend, but would be staying at the hotel if I were paying for my room and board.

I am going (probably my wife as well) and plan to stay at the conference hotel. Since two train tickets with bikes cost more than the biodiesel required to get me we may be driving. If so, I may have room for 1 more person and bike. I'm also planning to stay and extra day or more to finally get the chance to ride around portland and explore.

If I make it down there, I want to try and train it... but if I don't do the train, I'll drive my truck... so I could take 4-5 bikes....

and I can probably take 10-20 cyclists if we disassemble them to modular pieces.

I dont really think of it as porn as much as quality in workmanship.

I see porn as being dressing up and painting fancy and having a neat still on the shelf look to the bike

Im guilty of endulging in porn at times and it makes me wonder if they are ever ridden

but then again everyone has their own boat to float

back to topic, I have contemplated going anyhoo

Housing:
I have booked a double at the Red Lion Conference hotel with one bed open. I know Dave said he booked a room also(with one bed open unless wife and kid go). I think a number of people are staying at this hotel, the rate for bike show folks is pretty cheap(89.00 with tax 100.00, thats 50 per person).
I'm taking the 11:20 (2/8/07) train to portland.
Party in Portland!

Hey, this is coming up soon! Now is the time to get Amtrak tickets before while they're still only $28.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to try to get down there on an early Saturday train unless someone is driving that day and wants an extra passenger. Are there still beds available in anyone's room at the conference hotel?

There is a 10% or 15% off coupon if you search for it.

I'm heading down there on the 7:30am (yuck!) train on Thursday. See you guys at the show on Saturday. Anything fun happening Friday night? I'm also staying at the Red Lion.

I'm going down Friday day. I still have one bed for Friday night but not Saturday night. Ride around downtown Portland Friday night look for trouble. Sat? I think if there is enough folks we can make our own ride anywhere.

I'll be there I think, all weekend, trying to sell the last of the Lovely Ladies on Beautiful Bikes calendar. Though in comparison, the bikes won't be as lovely...

I will be going down Friday night and getting a bottle of fine single malt Scotch for flasking (2006 InterBike attendees will recall this tradition of mine and it's rules) before locating people to drink with and a place to put my stuff. Anyone who is going should feel free to e-mail or PM me if you want/need my cell phone number or meeting up while there.

See (some of) you there.

if you're going to be in portland on friday, let me double plus encourage you to come out to friday's midnight mystery ride. it's their 5-year anniversary ride and they're fundraising for a very sick kid named leo, but it will still probably be the same drunken, late, meandering ride through some typically unexplored places in portland. given my past three rides with them there is a nonzero chance of nudity and bonfires.

meet up at 11pm at good neighbor pizza, ne 8th and dekum, or just go to the official after party in the red lion (at the windows lounge on the 6th floor) and then ride up there with a group.

as usual, find me on the cell at 206.227.8449.

Hard question. This front load cargo bike was pretty awesome:

I really liked the Engin stainless mountain bike with handmade lugs:

I liked the Curtlo Rohloff/belt drive bike better than the one you posted:

The Pass and Stow porteur racks and bags were nice:

I should be getting that bag in the next couple of weeks.

The moots made use of a modifcation to the YBB shock that I thought was rather clever and subtle. How's the curtio put the belt on?

The pass andd stow racks were quite impressive and I talked to the guy about a rack for my moots, but he didn't think his rack can pull off what I wanted. They need a category for best accessory... there were some neat little items there.

The Naked cycles bike got the big awards.. and I think it really was the "over the top" example of unnecessary metalwork (in a good way). I didn't know that Sam is also the holder of the land speed record and the 12 hour speed record... nutso.

Here's the list of awards.

wouldnt this be easier?

Yeah it was a fixie. Pretty crazy in a utilitarian sense since it was the only brake. If your chain goes you're just as boned as if you had none. ;)

Still, awesome idea.

this was the dumbest thing I saw at the show. In a panic stop, you mash on brake. Your pedals stop moving, and by that virtue the rear wheel also stops. You begin to skid. What's accomplished? Same thing that could have been done with just your legs.

I thought, if you're going to go ahead with the break, why not just go ahead with it where it counts?

S&S coupler in the chainstay.

What do you want?

Re: naked bike. Half of the reason to show is to get a lot of attention and get customers. A lot of people show "show bikes", but that isn't what they spend all day making. I like booths like Bilenky that are a nice mix of show bikes and everyday bikes.
