just in, santarchy day and rough itinery:
Quote:
On Saturday, December 15! And Santa's been holding it in allllll year!
Santa begins at noon at the Blue Star Cafe in Wallingford, stumbles and weaves his way through the many fine establishments along 45th to the U-District's fabulous Hotel Deca, then boards chartered (burner) buses to Georgetown. More details below!
Bring $5 to ride the Santa bus(es) from the U-District to Georgetown. Your $5 gets you a collectible laminated bus pass, which features convenient taxicab phone numbers, for the long, vomitous ride home.
Get Santa's whereabouts up-to-the-minute via Dodgeball:

Santa's itinerary is simple, and subject to deviation. Like Santa.

Santa Suit in hand, beater bike ready for the Santabuse.
Don't bring a nice bike out if you plan on drinking to excess. Two years ago I wrecked my red Raleigh up pretty badly by getting overly wasted and trying to ride downtown from Ballard.

First, where's the downtown action? Serenading rich folks at benaroya while drinking electric blue boone's farm from a windex bottle is on my highlight reel.
Second, are we chasing the bus to Georgetown? If so, can we get a firm meeting time/place for bikers?

What are the odds that these bars won't card me? This sounds like a blast... they weren't carding at the bar when I did the Idiotarod this spring and that was in Georgetown, but that was only one bar... But I have a feeling that if I manage to blend in with the other rambunctious Santas it might work... Do you guys think its worth a try or should I do something else?

respect the establishments by not trying to get in if you are underage. Bars throughout the city are under the gun by the Mayor losing their liquor licenses for underage drinkers and violence. This goes along the lines of don't smuggle in booze or do drugs in the bathroom. By the time you're legal, you'll understand the rules of the bar, both spoken and implied.
We'll likely hit a few all-ages locations during the day and if you bring a few friends who are minors you can have your own Santa spree at other places while us big kids drink. I'll even bring booze in my bag for drinking outdoors.

I'm currently trending towards joining the melee in Georgetown, ~8ish.
I worked until 1:30am and then had the honor of changing a flat on West Marginal on the way home. Hurrah for sleeping till 1pm!

So I was rolling by towards the beginning, around 2:00. Aly Rae was already there with about 20 other santas. Within ten minutes there were 50 shouting santas with signs saying 'Santa Saves!' and 'I'm pro santa and I vote!' The population was increasing drastically by the minute.
Pirate santas. Pimp santas. Cowboys santas. Sexy santas. They tried to go to the Thai food restaurant Mei's and were immediately 86'd. From there my bus rolled up and I had to head out because I need to be doing this fully costumed.
I am now prepared to go be rowdy with a bunch of crazies in the U. See you kids there!

The time between the NiteLite and the Mars Bar is very hazy to me. I remember walking around down by the market maybe? Was there public urination involved? Police?
