I put on my bike clothes and was starting to get my bag together, and saw this on Weather Underground:

Areas of black ice formed overnight as temperatures dropped near to and below freezing across western Washington. The icy conditions will continue through the morning commute...so motorists are advised to use extra caution while driving this morning. Also...a few sprinkles or flurries are indicated on radar across portions of western Washington but they are very isolated and will not accumulate.

Bleh. I don't really feel like falling with my laptop, which I need to bring in Fridays. Happy bus time!

Happy Carpool Day!
I made coffee, and the attractive HR girl picked me up at home. The heated seats were quite nice. Ride safe everyone, it's amazingly slick here in Bellevue.

I drove in...so sad. But then on 522 the Kenmore cops were out slowing down traffic because of a huge ice sheet. Falling is worse than driving guilt for a day.

I think I can collectively say for everyone here that we hate you for that this morning.

It didn't look too icy in Ballard-Wallingford-Fremont, and probably isn't as bad as inland or up in the hills, but I figured I'd rather not chance it.

Yep, it's chilly. I didn't find any black ice on my commute, but I am still drunk from last night, so that adds to the hazard factor.

I made it in one piece, though... last day of work before a week off. whee!

That would have been good information to have, except the I'm close enough to the heat island of the city that it was warm. Like, all the frost had turned to dew. Well, most of it. As usual, the problems on the commute were dickheads in audis.

Meh, I just waited until the ice on my street melted and was just extra careful. Even the Mercer Slough wasn't too bad this morning.

Last time I rode on a morning like this I ended up tearing a huge hole in my trousers by eating shit after hitting a patch of black ice.

I took the bus this morning (ain't no shame) and listened to Talking Heads during my commute. No regrets.

I defeated any early morning ice by waiting until about noon to show up at work.

Being overly safe and beerified, I slipped on the ice trying to get up 30th last night and slid about 20ft on my front back down the hill. It was fun, and I didn't even get a scrape just a bruise on my chest.

I took that approach too.

No work today. Walked to the coffee shop. Saw no black ice. I love these winter threads, they make me laugh. And now I'm sure I'll be the next wiseass to fall on her hip over a 2 inch frozen puddle....

You seem to take that approach unless the weather is warm and clear. Maybe you should move to LA and join the other lizard people.

You'd be the same way if you had to work on Microsoft Campus. God I hate that place.

I found black ice. Last night on the way home I slipped and used my face to stop. I wonder what the coefficient of friction is between face and pavement?

For shits and giggles, here's a picture:

It's super puffy. I'll have a scary face for a while, and steri-strips for a week or two.

Technically, it's more cycle than it is either bi or motor, having not enough of either to qualify.
