Proof that not all cyclists in Seattle are fair weather pansies, there were tracks from at least 20 bikes in the Burke between Fremont and Ballard and I saw three other bikes on the trail on my way home.
The slickest spots I noticed were on the rubber track crossing thing and on the arterials where cars and buses had skidded to a stop packing the snow into uneven ice cakes.

I made it downtown until 145th and Lake City before bagging out and catching a bus. Sticking snow on a fixed gear is no fun.

I rode my usual route home, it just felt more foolhardy than normal.
I just went downstairs, about 45 minutes after I got home, and saw that there were still big chunks of slush stuck to my bike. Poor cold bike.

the ride to bellevue was adventurous. A good deal of ice and snow once I got to Factoria. There were tons of cars spun out and traffic was doing about 10mph on the freeway.
I had to walk up Eastgate, there isn't much of a shoulder and I was afraid of a car sliding out into me.

Ballard and Fremont were pretty sporting to ride through. Almost everything is ice or black ice or crushed snow/ice.
I feel sorry for the poor kid with skinny tires that was walking his bike.

All that I can say is coming from Colorado, Seattlites don't know how to handle snow worth shit!! Black ice is a little sketchy, however nothing car bumpers, guns n roses and the middle finger can't handle. For bikers, let's wear helmets and padded body suits tonite and see what sort of mischief we can get ourselves into.

Asphalt is HARD! Discovered that this morning thanks to some black ice, front tire skidded out from under me. No damage done though, tuck and roll reflexes kicked in. Some Nokians are sounding pretty good right about now. Either that or, dare I say it, a trike?

I started out on the bike from my house, but got spooked by the black ice sheets on the Central District Hillls. So, I rode the bus stop, got on the bus going down 23rd; traffic was ridiculous; the bus was going nowhere fast. Off the bus, back on the bike, down 23rd on the crunchy stuff on the sidewalk; the bus never even came close to passing me all the way to the UW.

i took the pugsley, figure the tires are wide and pretty sticky. but basically just slush and some crunchy ice once i got past the street in front of my house.
it really, really needs a front fender though. i got soaked and it was sunny and clear.

coming home I hit some black ice while riding on the shoulder of Eastgate Way. At ~15mph. I went down somewhat gracefully (no damage), and slid a good 20yds on my wool-clad butt with the bike clattering off ahead of me. The guy in the car next to me about pooped his pants but I had both hands in the air and was whooping it up while slidding on my keister.
