NOOOOO! I knew he was afflicted with MS, but wasn't expecting a massive heart attack to take him out. A sad, sad day. The world has lost one of the true old salts of cycling. Rest in peace Sheldon and thanks for all the wisdom. A tribute to him from all his friends and fans at the NAHBS next weekend would be awesome.

That is sad. Somone should mount an effort to archive (and perhaps reorganize) all of the information he put online.
We were just talking about this at work. I'm working on it now.

i was under the impression that for the last few years the sheldon brown site has been run by a number of folks at harris cyclery, not just sheldon himself. i don't anticipate it will go away.

damn...what a loss!
Good thing his shop and family have taken over most of the workings. I'm sure the site and it's collective knowledge will not disappear any time soon.

Looks like a lot of the content is well archived in a least one place.
His site is truly amazing. With the advent of wikipiedia it's becoming more rare to see a "fan site" be the definitive source of information on a topic.

Sheldon Brown: A man who put something worthwhile to read on the Internet.
I soaked up a lot of bike-nerdery from his website in 2003 when I wanted to learn how to whrench on bikes and make a SS/fixed gear. I met him briefly at Interbike.

All of the work is still under copyright, so it isn't really available to copy and reorganize. I'm hoping that the site lives on and continues to be updated through Harris Cyclery. Part of the greatness of his glossary were all of the personal language and touches, so having a large editiorial board might lose that. I am hopeful that the right things happen with the content.
I only met Sheldon once, but we've had a lot of interactions over the last 11 years on usenet and mailing lists. He's was the best and most helpful single online bicycle personality anywhere that I'm aware of. Meeting him (and having him ask me to show him a few things that I was impressed with) at Interbike 2004 was the highlight of that trip.
