Were you aware that Bogotá, Colombia has this Ciclovia thing where on Sunday's from 7am - 2pm over 70 miles of city streets are closed to traffic? Residents then "come out to walk, bike, run, skate, recreate, picnic, and talk with family, neighbors & strangers."
I talked to Hiller / Patrick about this a month ago. Cascade would like to expand the current program along Lake Washington Blvd, but they believe their effort is better focused on that whole going door-to-door to give people fliers with custom routes to nearby grocery stores, schools, etc. thing they're working on.
But I was thinking of having some sort of an 'event' on one of the 2008 dates (i haven't seen a schedule yet) to try and draw attention to Seattle's tiny program. Come on a Thursday ride and we can BS about it.

as a resident of bogota i went to this pretty much every week. it is great. everyone is there from people in lyrca who are training or something to tons of kids with training wheels on.
they also have this thing- kind of like ghost cycles- called estrellas negras where they paint a star on the street wherever someone gets killed.
they have way more stars than we have ghost bikes.
