Let's ride there some time this summer? Mid-June feels about right? It's just about exactly 100 miles, and I've never done it before.

Nothing like climbing a vertical mile towards the end of a century.

This ain't nothin'. The FHR, which did on a fixie last year, is about 3800 feet in under a third the distance.

I did walk a bit, though.

What gears were/are you running? I'm rollin' 49/18 (73.5 gi) and it - the FHR - sounds daunting to me.

83 gear inches. I was a younger man at the time. This year I'm riding with a couple of dérailleurs.

You can do whatever you like. I, for one, would like to spend a couple days up there: maybe hike up to camp muir.

muir's what, 5000 more feet in ten miles? on a singlespeed pugsley? i'm not sure if "cake" is the word you're looking for.

Isn't the FHR more like 2500' (same as the chilly hilly course)? Still impressive on a fixed gear.

Oh, and riding to Paradise sounds like fun, but I'd be more likely to do it as a 3-4 day round trip kind of thing...

FHR/CH: 2675' in 33 miles = average 1.5% grade (discounting the downhills)
Paradise to Muir: 4800' in 4.5 miles = average ~20% grade

big difference...

Also: I'm definitely interested in riding to Paradise. Maybe in hiking to Muir the next day; maybe not.

Sounds like a plan. Watching you dick heads from the summit will be great fun. The park entrance is at 2200ft and paradise is at 5200ft. 3000ft in 17miles. last time I road it took 1.5 hours up. 35 min to come down. I actually hit 58mph. yea bring your fucking fixie. muir camp is at 10,200. and is only 4 miles from paradise. The average person takes about 3.5 hours to hike this, now throw this little altitude thing in the mix. Also keep in mind there are cravasses on the muir snow field. That alone is a full day.

speaking of crevasses, i see the ice goblins let you out of yours long enough to post.

i was wondering if we find you frozen solid like that damn squirrel from Ice Age
