Also, the U District Street Scramble's on April 27th.

The run at the Scramble at the Market was fun. But is it worth it to bike to checkpoints on Capitol Hill? I can't decide whether I should run or bike.

I'd say it depends on whether you like running or biking hills. Based on past Scrambles, there will likely be checkpoints down the hill in all directions (north, east and west), and likely some to the south as well (which isn't really down a hill).
It always depends on who sets the course, but I believe they aim for around a 25-mile route to sweep, which is pretty much impossible for runners. I'd guess checkpoints in the Arboretum and downtown or SLU are assured, and Lake Washington and the U District are possible (nothing like a drawbridge to make things interesting).
If you want, I can bring maps of last years UDistrict and the CD scramble from a few years back in to work so you can see what I mean.

These are for the most part, 'respectable' people who don't drink at 10:30am.
Which doesn't mean you can't. It's Capitol Hill, after all.

"'respectable' people" = a ton of kids and their parents, and a few mid 40s dudes who run marathons in their freetime.

beer during the scramble sounds like byob to me.
but that day is also the kickoff of the Hard Liver Barleywine Festival at Brouwer's in Fremont. 50 different barleywines from different years. it was super fun last year.

Mid-40s runners is fair, although I think the one you went to (no bikes, holiday time, downtown) skews way more toward kids than one on Capitol Hill in March will.
A quick look at last year's results shows that there were many more family teams at the two events that were sponsored by the Pike Place Market, and at Gig Harbor (sponsored by the city of Gig Harbor, and free to boot). All 3 of these were sponsored by organizations that seemed to go to some effort to get families to show up.
Conversely, the Fremont Oktoberfest scramble seemed to skew toward young adults of, say, beer-drinking age. Hmmm.

That was a pretty fun race! But goly, this isn't a good start of the race season for me. I came in second (out of 2 in my category). Overall, I got third. A runner and this other biker dude beat me. Also Greg went to more checkpoints than I did while hauling Emmett on his trailer, although he was late.
I can't believe that I rode only 22.59 miles in 2:50. I was even cruising at 22mph along Lake Wa. I've gotta work on getting better technique in getting my manifest shit together and finding good routes.

That was pretty fun, and except for a little drizzle at around noon, we stayed dry. Then after the race Evan and my family went out for pho, and afterward, as we were heading to the UDistrict, the skies opened and we got soaked.
Evan beat us fair and square, but, as he said, we came in first in our class, so we got the Disney Princess Royal Chocolate Bars and he did not. Also, some socks.
You'd think my training for the half marathon would have put me in good shape, but actually I think all the running into work took away from the hauling a 50 pound child in a trailer up hills to work. I was really tired and cold after we were done.
Next month: UDistrict Street Scramble (April 27).
