I was really considering it until I refreshed myself on the symptoms of malaria.
and Ben's misfortune has me not trusting doctors.

I've traveled in Malarial zones a bunch. If you can get to good medical care, Malaria is no big deal. I have coworkers who've caught it two or three separate times. "cured" people used to relapse, but that was before the liver stage of the disease was fully understood. Strong medication is 100% effective.
it's the experimental study vaccines I'd be afraid of. Remember the "Elephant men" in London?
