In from New York, pedaling on my lonesome (ok it was FF), approached a red light, check, all clear, proceed (cautiously, of course), two of Seattle's finest pace pace me and next thing I know, I'm "pulled over." Cop car arrives to join the party, no warning, just vibes and a ticket. $124, ouch!!!
Question.
A. Will this go on my driving record (was instructed "not sure about you people in New York but bikes are treated like cars out here")? Dont need the points if I ever have to get a car and then insurance.
B. Any chacnce of getting it reduced?
It doesn't go on your driving record, but I doubt it will be reduced.

It depends.
If it has the box checked "traffic" on the top, then it becomes a moving violation and it will go on your driving record and your insurance can be affected.
Go to the magistrate and explain some sort of mitigating circumstance, explain that you do not feel that a cycling ticket should cause your drivers insurance to go up...blahblah.. and they will usually change it to a non-moving.
Generally when the cite you with smc 11.50.140 then they check the traffic infraction box and you should mitigate.
I have had every single ticket I have ever taken to mitigation reduced or thrown out. I have never just paid.
Mitigate or contest, file discovery, get the police report, go in prepared, looking clean cut. If you contest and request the officer show up and he fails to then the case is thrown out. However if the officer shows up, you better know what you are doing. If you mitigate... mercy is liable to be obtained from the magistrate. Downtown magistrates are more understanding, west seattle magistrates are completely incompetent. Never go too west seattle.
If they do not offer a deal on your mitigation, you can still move to contest or request a change of venue.
P.S. I am not an attorney, I just fight traffic tickets 2-3 times a year. And I win.

Case in point for having a military ID, passport, State ID, or other government issued identification instead of a DL when riding your bike. Many states cannot issue you a ticket which impacts your driving record, if the ticket isn't issued to your driver’s license.
