remember kids, it's better to be second than dead! You can't make like jesus, so look both ways before running red lights!

Too bad the delete option goes away after a while. I guess a slow SQL server and the reload button are a bad combo.

Sweet, I'm totally down for this.
Remember kids, when talking about being second it is best to post the same thing a second time...

Does it matter if I've never done an Alleycat before and do not, in face, quite understand what happens in one?

Nope, doesn't matter. Show up around 2:30. Pay your $5. Receive instructions. It's not rocket surgery.
There's no shame if you get DFL, and it might get you a prize too. Although I think Matthew's already tried to claim that particular distinction for this particular race.
Bring some beer in case you get thirsty during the race.

I came in third place, behind GregBarnes (2nd) and Ponch (1st), a guy from CM; fast, smart and handsome. 1st Fixie was also 1st Place. Gretchen took 1st Lady. It took me 1hr 35 minutes or so.
Cal Anderson Park (start)
Bridge To Nowhere (Arboretum)
Cowen/Ravenna Park
Froula Playground
Gasworks (with a pitstop at SpeedyReedy for a new chain. Mine detonated right at the bottom of Stone Way. Oops)
Mt Pleasant Cemetary (top of QA)
Fishing Pier on Myrtle Edwards Park
Golden Gardens FTW.
I took home a $50 gift certificate to Laughing Buddha Tattoos, plus a free piercing.

That was fun. Now I'm tired.
My route. Slightly shorter than Langston's. I surmised early on that you either had to repeat the N-S distance from Froula to Myrtle Edwards, or repeat the E-W distance from the Arboretum to Myrtle Edwards, and I chose the latter, so my route was:
I also thought the idea of heading west from Froula and going down the switchbacks to GG made sense, until just before I got onto 85th and remembered the washout. So I took the stairs. And then I found out the washout was passable. Oh well. It didn't end up making a difference.
I got a free wheel build from R&E.
Also, we left at 3pm, and were done at around 4:45, so more like 1:45 on the race time. And I thought the winner was named Ponch (like CHiPs), but I confess I was a little out of it when we were introduced.

Yeah, that was awesome. I came in 11th, but that's because i'm slow and lame. I still came away with a floor pump and plenty of beer.
For the Win: Shit tonnes of fun, seeing parts of queen anne i've never seen before, beer, floor pump, beach, bonfire, etc.
For the Lose: my broken left crank(from before, nothing to do with this race, I rode my geared bike today), biking home, deciding to stop by the essential bread dumpster, hitting a fucking invisible (in the dark) curb head on because i left the lights on my broke-ass bike, getting mad road-rash on the back of my hands and my chin.
sigh
one day i'm sure i'll grow tired of being retarded.

Ran through the locks

Emergency food stop at the AMPM for the best $0.89 cheeseburger of my life

Walked through the locks
Took the new trail to nowhere on the east side of seaview

The theme worked out really well. Hauling a cross at the bridge to nowhere, walking on water at Cowen park, riding through the graveyard at Mt. Pleasant looking for one grave in a thousand, and I didn't mind the marshmallow peeps and wine checkpoints either.
Top it all off with bunny sprints (both cranks on a fixie facing the same direction is the new fix push), beer, and a nice fire on the beach. Oh Seattle, you're so good to me.
Way to go .83 representing two out of the top three with a broken chain and a montain bike. I pulled either 20th or 21st out of 43(?) on a Dahon Mu XL folding bike.
Koos, pics?

Now I've got to go outside and remove a huge bush.

Thanks to everyone that came, I think it went pretty well. It's a beautiful thing, people coming together that love bikes. Bryan uploaded some pics to flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/sirbryanclark/show/
Stay tuned for more races to come. We are expecting to make it happen every 6 weeks or so. And hopefully the good lord will open the heavens and make it sunny every race we do.
And yes, the fellow that won, his name is Ponch. And he is fast on a track bike.
Keep the rubber side down,
-ryan.

Evan, what's with the cut across the railroad tracks onto Armory (I presume on the way back from Myrtle Edwards)? Was that when you were heading for AM/PM? And doesn't that involve jumping a couple of high railyard fences?

As much as I'd like to say I was so tripped off of peeps laced with acid, that was just a mapping mistake. Thanks for catching that. Nearly 29 miles of racing

Sorry to bump old news, but I got a little bit of footage from the bunny races on YT:
I was hoping to get video at the bridge crossing, but I guess 90% of the group showed up while I was making a beer run. We thought more people would hit Myrtle Edwards / Queen Anne first. Ah well. In the Jeebus theme, it ended up more of a washing of the feet than walking on water. Glad everyone had a good time, and looking fwd to doing it again.

Apparently the WSDOT 'Incident Response Team' showed up on the Bridge to Nowhere --- see the flickr pool.

I think the Incident Response Team was fairly dismissive, and said something along the lines of "enjoy your art".
While dropping off the dudes / crosses, two old guys with heavy euro accents asked if we were a "suicide team". I guess it's hard to not look sketchy carrying two child-sized crosses just about anywhere.
