FWIW, this is an homage (copy?) of sorts to a visual cognition experiment you often get to see in a psych class or (when I teach it) a critical thinking class; here's a link to the place that makes this series of videos called "Surprising Studies in Visual Awareness." There are a number of other interesting ones that demonstrate how unreliable our visual processing system can be.
(The UW library has a copy of at least the first series.)

yeah, having seen the gorilla/basketball one before i knew the trick.
the ones that are better are the ones that pretend to be the gorilla/basketball film and then turn into a giant scary screaming face at full volume and make you damn near shit your pants.
