Megan and I will be in DC 4.4- 4.7 . Anybody have a bead on anything fun going on that weekend? We're probably going to be going a bourgeois bike tour; https://www.bikethesites.com/bike-tours.htm#seasonal, (scroll down for Cherry Blossoms) but I'm hoping to hear of other fun options while we're there. Naturally we'll be spending most of our time doing the Tourist Thing, but we'll be staying in Foggy Bottom at a friends' townhouse and are going to have time to fill. Our hosts are "grownups", so while they'll be fun to go to dinner with, they'll be reaching for the Depends about the time I'm ready to head out for the evening.
I used to live in DC, back when I worked at Naval Research Labs, and later an agency that'd prefer for me not to discuss the giant satellite dish on the roof of the NRL library and museum.
If you like live music, 9:30 Club is a must visit. Doesn't matter who's playing.
Night life is also good. Not in Foggy Bottom though. Look a little north of the Mall, in Dupont Circle, or if you're really ambitious, near my stomping grounds in Mount Pleasant.
What did you have in mind for touristy stuff?

Ditto on the 9:30 Club. It is a great venue. I'll try to think of some more stuff too, used to spend some time there, still have friends that live there.
I love the Jefferson Memorial around sunset. If you have an evening where you aren't planning to do too much, make sure and see the Holocaust Museum. Of course, totally depressing (hence I wouldn't have huge evening plans) but very well done.

Tritto to the 9:30 Club.
Ride the Metro for sure...that was my favorite part of living in D.C.
I would point you to my old favorite bar but it burned down. :-(
If the weather is nice (which it probably will be), go to the National Gallery's sculpture garden. If I recall correctly, it didn't have those fucking stupid "No touching the art!" signs that the Olympic Sculpture Park has.

Quadruple on the 9:30 Club! That place is awesome!
Never actually been there though.

I'd strongly recommend hooking up the dcfixed.com crew for bike related shenanigans.
Jefferson and FDR are my favorites on the monument front and generally tourist free later in the evening. Einstein is also fun, and you can climb on him. Ditto on George Mason (as you can see to the left). The Mt. Vernon trail is a nice ride if you have time and want to put in some miles.
As for night life it all depends on your preferences. The dcfixed folks will be able to help with all that.

If you like obscure/random beers, definitely go check out the Brickskeller, just a few blocks from the Dupont Circle metro; over 1000 beers (yes, 1000) from all the near and far corners of the world.

well it's been beautiful the entire time we've been here. Friday was a 26 hour hero-athon; we walked the major momuments, Mall, White House, etc, dinner out at a local mexican place with our host in NW DC and passed the hell out.
Today we did the bike-tour thing of all the cherry blossoms, walked a bunch, did some light shopping, went to a couple museums and then dinner in Dupot Circle with our hosts again. Our after-dinner party plans have fallen through, we're getting ready to go out for a drink just the two of us.
Lots of bikes out and about, I wish I had my own ride the entire time. I haven't walked this far in years, total. Pics upon my return.

Check out the Eighteenth Street Lounge.
It is owned by the Thievery Corporation guys and they are often spinning records there.
