I lost my wallet a couple weeks ago and did not find out until 24hrs later. I called to cancel my cards and it turns out that the guy who found my wallet called the credit card company to report it and they gave me his number. For the price of a six pack of harps I got my wallet back. I might even end up racing this guy's boat with him.
I got 2 peopels credit cards in one week a few years ago.
The first time I had purchased something and they gave me "my" (a) credit card back. Later I go to pay for groceries and my pin doesn't work, my name is not on the card, my card is behind the other persons card.
Later I find a 2nd card still in the gas station pay station.
I just called in and canceled both cards, if it was a whole wallet I might go through the efforts to find the person.

UPDATE!
WE ARE THE MOTHERFUCKING CHAMPIONS!
E.P.I.C. WIN!
metro called me, right after I cancelled all my cards. Bus 5 (where I lost it) was now a 55 headed to West Seattle. She told me where to meet it downtown. I sprinted to 3rd and pike (about a hundred blocks) and still had to run 4 more to catch the bus.
Wallet returned.
Thread complete.

Meh? That was the least of my worries. New bank cards will be in the mail by Tuesday.
Honestly my biggest worry was losing my social security card (stupid, I know) and my bus pass! Bus pases are $50 to replace.

Glad to hear you got your wallet back Jeff.
Last Friday night, returning from a party, I literally ran over some chick's wallet outside the SODO Showbox. There was no cash, but a large collection of business cards and a couple credit cards. Not worth keeping :) She was at the Les Claypool show, a bartender and as trashy as you'd expect. I had empathy and brought it home.
I went through her wallet and called some guy, the only one whose name showed up twice. Turned out to be her ex husband/baby-daddy, and he called her and she came out to WSEA to pick it up. She was blacked out drunk when she lost it, and was walking out the door to go to PDX for a week when she got my message. Victory!

WIN!
About a month ago traveling back from SF I lost my iPhone. About a week later I bought another one.
Alaska Airlines called today and they found it. I'll be picking it up Friday.

I had an iPod stolen about two years ago in Squamish BC. The Squamish police found it about three months ago and I paid for them to ship it back to me. It was in good shape when I got it, seemed to work with a little charge.
I charged it up, spent about 2 - 3 hours putting together a playlist (20 gigs of music is hard when you're used to 2), loaded the music on, was all kinds of excited to have my old Pod back, and then it worked for 30 seconds before emitting the click of death.
Now I have a paperweight with a story. w00T!
