Last night I ended up having to leave my bike locked up outside Vivace on Denny and Broadway and someone took it :( It was my first race mountain bike and it means a lot to me. I would be so grateful for help getting it back.

That sucks.

post a picture of it and tell us what lock were you using.

Check ebay/craigslist/etc, give information to the guys at recycled, but don't put a flyer up there immediately in case the thief goes in there to check if you are flyering bike shops. Stings are more effective than broadcasting.

Make a police report asap. I got my witnesses because the responding officer to a bike rack complain got my call, if I had waited they connection may not have been made.

Isn't there a bank or something at that corner that might have a camera?

Great ideas!

I was using some sort of fancy cable lock (which I know was stupid).

I’m trying to dig up a photo but I don’t have any recent ones, unfortunately.

I’m going to photograph and write down the serial numbers of all my other bikes tonight.

I feel like we keep saying this over and over... You wouldn't own a car without auto insurance, so why own a bike without renter's/homeowner's insurance. It's so cheap, I'm paying about $10/$10K. You really can't afford not to have it.

Check to see if you still have the lock's receipt and get a police report. Most locks nowadays have some sort of theft guarantee.

Trek maintains a database of old models, including pics if you don't have any images of the bike, BTW. I'll look when I get home since Trekbikes.com isn't blackberry friendly.

you'll have to excuse them, they're busy with helmet tickets and the war on drugs.

Keep calling. A Merckx was stolen about 6 months ago and it look 2 days to get a SPD human on the line to take the call.

Once the bike is on the SPD "hot bikes" list, that is faxed to the pawn shops. All the pawn shop employees I talked to at least said they won't buy a known hot bike. Get's them in big trouble.

Definitely hit the Cascade stolen bike page.

I also suggest the Ntl Stolen Bike Registry website

Lots of word of mouth with bike shops, coffee shops (Vivace, to start), people that have bike love. If you are really obsessive, check CL for close, but not too far cities like Portland.

Good luck. Having your bike stolen S-U-C-K-S.
