It scares me that the people who are designing/promoting/implementing this... don't realize they can... well.... just take the fucking bus! Or if they want to get there quicker... ride a FUCKING BIKE!

I get the feeling that the people behind the streetcar don't ever get out of thier cars and are scared of the people on the bus and afraid of bicycling. If your only experience is with a hammer, the whole world looks like a nail.

Well said snyd. Most people on this forum use a bike as their hammer, but most people in Seattle use a car as their hammer. The good thing is that the City of Seattle's current city council and comprehensive plan blatantly discourage automobile travel.

John, I do see where you're coming from with the whole issue about streetcar design, but again I need to stress that streetcars aren't designed to be fast and they stop as much as a bus does. But they provide more choices for travel that aren't the automobile which is fine with me.

Also, streetcars do make politicians warm and fuzzy because they actually are implemented and can generate more tax revenue just like the South Lake Union Streetcar did with the local improvement district. It might be easier for the City of Seattle to build their own streetcar using a LID than it is to add more bus service.
