stolen from bikepirates. a 1955 film about taking a train out to ride bikes in the english countryside.

part one
part two

"most people, as soon as they get anywhere near a railway, are suddenly attacked by pangs of insatiable hunger, or unquenchable thirst, or both. especially if they've been up since seven o'clock. especially on a sunday morning. especially if they're cyclists."

It's like Rivendell's cycling utopia.

Not that I can disparage that sentiment.

Beautiful bicycles, lovely countryside, good times and some miles.

Hot British women drinking warm British beer; it's a lovely image.

I just took my bike on the shinkansen (well, like 4 days ago) and it pretty much sucked. Stupid rules about having to bag your bike. Not so bad to do, until you have to lug the bagged bike a mile through Tokyo Station. With all your other luggage to boot. I kept thinking, "If only I had some device this all fit on that I could roll along... Oh wait!"
